Rod, The last time we did Buellton, very few people were even at their trailers during the last half of the open house. I don't think anyone expects you to hang around that whole time. If you don't want lookie loos in your camper while you are walking around, I've seen many with a small rope across the entry... You can get a peek but not tramp through. Maybe get some contact cards printed for those who really want to follow up. Hi Friends, I have visited some of the larger rallies the last few years as well as participated in 4 of them. The ones I participated in ranged in size from 35 trailers to 125. I never sensed any competition. There is plenty of refreshments flowing and sometimes it seems like people use the rally as a reason to party and drink. The one thing I don't like as a participant are open houses. I prefer rallies that do not have an open house, I will show my trailer to anyone who asks to see inside at these rallies though. My first rally had 125 trailers and a 3 hour open house to show my trailer. I was down for that and willing to sit for 3 hours. However, I am registered for the Pismo Rally in California in May 2019 and that has a 5 hour open house!! To me that's just work. It just takes the fun out of it for me. I always wanted to participate in this rally, but I am seriously having second thoughts about it. I am still working so I don't have the luxury of arriving a few days early to hang out and relax. Rod

Thanks Dan,
I hadn't noticed those ropes so much as well as so many folks having moved away from their trailers. That I could live with.

We stayed around our camper for a while but we left the door open and had a sign that welcomed people in,we never worried about it.
After the open house we had a few folks stop by and ask if they could look inside and we always welcomed them.
Who doesn't appreciate nice comments & talking about their campers. Danny

Danny Danny, Thanks, that's what my neighbor - some old guy, lol, in the site next to mine told me to do at my first rally. I did do it for about 30 minutes, but was uncomfortable with it. Maybe it's the area I live in that makes you that way. But, thinking about it again, if you ever saw the inside of my Rod and Reel and how I decorated it, there is absolutely nothing you might want to take other than maybe a 3 foot tall teddy bear. So, maybe leaving it open and walking away from it wouldn't hurt. Teddy bear in R and R by

Ignore competitive people go have fun. Most groups are just having fun. There are a few radicals that go over board making their camper look like a museum, lots of fancy stuff like no one lives there, like no one ever sleeps in this camper. LOL Some of those people are not real campers they only go camping with the groups to show off, they never camp on there own with out a group. Find a nice group to camp with there are lots of nice people.
We painted our camper with latex exterior house paint using a roller and paint brush. It looks good enough for us. Our time is better spent camping, not working all summer striping off old paint. We never do asphalt parking lot camping that is not real camping. We avoid KOA and many private camp grounds like the plague. We camp mostly in State Parks & National Parks.

Rally's like any other activity are comprised of all types of people, some competitive and others are not, it's all about enjoying what you are doing. Danny
