Hi, I pulled the hub off the curbside of, Andy, my 1957 Westerner to check the bearings. I need to know how close to operational they look? Right now, the wiring harness to my van is not working. I haven't scanned the wiring to see why it's not working yet. My question right now, is more on how does the brake assembly look? Does it look like it will work once the wiring is working? Before taking the picture, I brushed away some of the cobwebs. Pix are below. The last image is a duplicate that I couldn't figure out how to delete. Feel free to comment. Thanks Rod Curbside brake assembly - whole view. Below is the curbside front facing brake pad. Interestingly, the front brake pad has visibly more wear than the rear facing one. Image below shows magnet. Does that magnet look worn?

Here is a way you can check operation without hooking to a vehicle at this stage.
Take a piece of steel and try to stick it to the magnet. Okay, now you see it doesn't stick due to power being applied to the magnets. Now take a 12 volt battery charger or 12 volt power supply and hook it up to the brake system (2) wires and apply 12 volt power. Now the piece of steel should stick to the magnet. If it does your brake system should work since the pics look like everything else is ok and no springs are broken.
Make sure you buy and install new grease seals every time you remove the hubs. soup

I would replace the brake linings. That front one looks like it's down to the bone on the bottom. You don't want to have to replace the drums.

Before you replace anything, do Soup's test to make sure they work. Take the nuts off of the two wires and make sure they are clean, not corroded and make a good clean connection. Do both "inside" the hub, and on the "back side" of the backing plate. They have nuts, and connections on both sides
Complete brake assemblies are so cheap today, in most cases you toss'em, and replace the entire assembly if it needs parts.
