My trailer currently has an origional half size small fridge. (At least it appears origional, but could be a slightly later 1970's era) The interior egg tray looks really retro so it is old ... Pre 1980's anyway. It runs on 12 volt and 110. We plugged it into 110 and it made ice, so it does work. It has a cool vintage interior with no cracks. It's vintage correct for the trailer of course, but I am trying to weigh out If I should replace it with a taller unit, and I would like to hear a few opinions from those of you who have done full, vintage correct restorations. Here are a few questions... 1. Does it increase the value of the trailer if you have a taller fridge, older unit or ice box. 2. Would putting in an obviously new unit with black plastic edging, reduce the vintage effect? ( I can't find a new unit with the traditional look edge). 3. Is it possible to use the 12 volt option for an overnight boondock situation. What kind of battery would we need for that? Do we need an inverter? Could we just add ice in that situation or is that a lost cause? If I keep it, how do I turn it into a red panel to match my stove. Do I paint the one there, or do I need to switch it out to something else. Does this one look origional to those of you who have done this a bit. Thanks

Short answer... Propane power rocks... Works great all the time no matter what. Brand new is best. Computer switches it over automatically when power is removed or the other way around so it saves gas. Of course it's gonna look new but you can put a wood grain front on it where the metal colored panel goes. Solves that problem.
As far as value of the trailer going up or down with newer additions is concerned... That depends on what the person buying it wants in a trailer. Some things I just like to upgrade. If the old one works well enough for you and you are stuck on "era correct" then by all means keep it. Spend money on it if need be. But todays appliances are much more efficient and I like to eat well when I'm camping. I now have two trailers with new propane/110vac fridges and I love them both. Oh and I used them when we had power outages this summer so my food didn't go bad.

I agree with Mobil, propane/110 is the way to go. I like the manual (piezo lighter) and no 12 volts required to run the circuit board. A taller fridge would be better. The Dometic 2410 is a nice manual unit.
A fridge running on 12 volts really drags the battery(s) down. I don't recommend them unless you have a converter and will be plugged into shore power.
