Calling on you Aljo(a) owners specifically. We simply cannot locate the VIN for our '58 Aljo. We. bought it with a bill of sale only, so there's no title that might reference it. The registration slips that the PO included with the sale go all the way back to 1980 and on every single one, the VIN is blank. I've looked at the photo/diagram that is included in this thread that indicates where to look on the tongue--no luck. If any of you Aljo owners can tell me where your VIN is located, I will love you so much.

Well.........on a 1953 Aljoa that I recently owned, the VIN# was stamped "in large numbers" on the top right side (passenger side) frame rail, immediately behind the weld joint for the coupler.
Do you have all the paint removed?

My 56 had the VIN on the coupler itself, street side. Very large even numbers. There was also smaller numbers on the door side tongue, not as even. Right in front of the tank: A close up: And the tongue: Many trailer companies do not stamp the coupler because it might be changed out if damaged. I believe the coupler stamp on the above Aljo was factory original.

My next stop is the FB Aljo page. We are still stripping paint--there is a good bit of corrosion as well so we are going slow to avoid damaging numbers that might be underneath. So far as we have used is paint stripper but will have to go the wire brush route next. Thanks for the help.

Found the VIN after months (off and on, lol) of hunting. Here it is: We were told this camper is a'58 but does the VIN actually indicate that it's a'56? Not sure if the first character is an 8 or a B, but the next four are definitely 6150. And not nearly as many numbers as your '56, Vikx.

Mine was a 56 (note the 6) and 15 feet total; 7 feet wide= 615007 Actual series #2958.
I'm guessing:
8 or B(year? 58?) 6 (year? 56?) 15 feet long and series # 0263. There doesn't seem to be a width in your #. I think it's a 58 according to the title. Surely not 6 feet wide, so they changed the system between 56 and 8.
Where is the VIN on yours?? And congrats for finding it!

Vikx, thanks for the explanation of the numbers. Strangely, my compadres on the Aljo FB page have longer VIN #s, too. I thought finding it would answer my questions about the year model but I'm still confused, ha ha. Juergen Eichermueller is sending me some information about late'50's Aljos and I understand there are some VIN #s in the info, which hopefully will shed some light.
Could it be a '58 and the guy stamping the numbers that day stamped 6150 then added the 8 in front to correct his mistake? Or is it an early '56 and the numbering system changed with later production? Aggggghh! We don't have a title so I can't refer to that, but all the registration slips we found say '58.
About the location--it was streetside, on top of the tongue right past the coupler, really small characters--not much bigger than typewriter type. I looked everywhere it SHOULD have been, then started looking in places I didn't expect to find it. I DID expect the numbers to be bigger.

Yeah, Aljo's are weird. Those off numbers on the 56 tongue are ugly compared to the perfect #s on the coupler. Coupler numbers are not accepted in some states/counties/provinces...
