Mobiltec had posted the use of hand or palm nailers for your trailers on the old board and how great they are. I just thought I would let you know that Harbor Freight has them on sale right now. The palm nailer is $22.99 and the hand nailer is $15.99 until July 31.

Yep but ya gotta practice using them for different pressures and angles and uses and sizes of staples or nails. Once you have it down then you can go to town without damaging the wood around the fastener.

Pretty cool. I watched the harbor freight video of the nailer in use. I did happen to see where at the end of driving the 1st nail in the row toward the beginning of the video, that they slipped of the nail head at the end of it, stayed pressed down, and it left an imprint on the wood from the piston head of the nailer. Does this happen often? Also, how does this work with smaller 1" twisty nails and other smaller 1" nails? BigBill, Mobiltec, do you guys have any input on smaller nails on finished wood, and in smaller areas next to say a wall edge?

Susie Q check your magazines for a Harbor Freight ad then clip the 25% or 20% ad to save a buck. Soup controlling the air pressure makes a difference in the marking that is why you do a quick practice on similar wood with your nail.

Now I have a good reason to go to Harbor Freight next time I have the $$. Thanks Bill, I did see where mobiltec had mentioned the same thing somewhere else too. (after I posted, should have read longer before posting LOL) I just thought a smaller nail head would allow too much movement side to side but I guess not!

Soup without going out and measuring it the hammer part is about 3/8"or so around. When I first unpacked it I thought this thing is going to be clumsy and awkward to use why did I buy it. Then I decided that I had it so I might as well give it a try and after reading the instructions and playing with it a little I said this thing is cool. The thing I like about it the most if you are trying to nail into a surface that isn't real solid it drives the nail right in with out causing any problems. There are two sizes I bought the smaller less expensive one to try and doubt that I ever buy the larger one, this one seems like it will drive anything with in reason. The most important thing is to adjust the air, if you turn pressure up high it will sink a nail right now but if you turn the air down it takes a second longer but you can control the hammer tracks. on small nails try 20 or 30 lb of air to start.

I have a couple of different video clips using the Palm Nailer. Just used it for twisty nails again the other day. You need to drill a pilot hole with a very small (smaller than the nail) bit. Then set the twisty nail in the hole. Then use the palm nailer at about 50 psi. I hold back and can now control how many "wacks" the nailer does. Even down to one at a time. You control that with the pressure you put on the nail. You also must hold the nailer straight and watch what you are doing so the twisty nail does not go in crooked...
Now this may all seem like a lot to go through but it really does work much better than beating the twisty nails in with a hammer which also has a tendency to move the entire wall with each wack of the hammer. I've gotten so good with it that I really should do another video and will as soon as I go to place the seam strips over the seams. Watch for that one right after the roof vids which will be as soon as I get rid of this flu.
Here's the first vid I did with it before I got really good with it.
And here I am using it to drive regular nails in a very tight area where you can not get a hammer. You can skip to about the 14 minute mark to see the palm nailer in use.

Thanks, Larry! Now you've definitely sold me on it. I wanted to ask how you kept from knocking down the wall when hammering twisty nails but I was afraid that would sound really stupid. After a few whacks yesterday, I gave up and told myself there had to be a better way. Dang, wish I had thought about this before Christmas !

My pleasure SusieQ. I will do a video showing Tips On Using The Palm Nailer as soon as I can. Because with practice you really do learn how to control the thing very well. It becomes way faster than using a hammer.

OK, guys, I ordered it. Thanks Bill, for suggesting a coupon. I found a 20% off one online. Cost me a total of 18.39 plus $6.99 shipping. Still less than what it would cost to drive 60 miles to HF and back. Besides, last time I went there, I came home with a mouse in a box that cost me $400.

Yes I noticed that earlier and felt so special that I know someone that important. I'm not sure if that is a promotion or a demotion but somebody has to do it and I can't think of a better person for the job. If there is a problem now we know who to yell at.

It's kind of like "hall monitor" or "bus monitor." Yep that was me, yellow safety sash and all. I'm just going to keep the links locked and organized.
