Here's an old photo of a campground that I found during my time as a park ranger. There's what we consider nowadays to be a vintage camper or two in the background. In its heyday..

That is great! Thanks for sharing, Moose! If I had my life to do over, I'd be a park ranger!!!

I met some awfully nice people, heard some pretty amazing stories and saw some beautiful sights to boot. I have some other photos kicking around but I can't seem to find them right now.

Yes a Park Rangers job would have been fantastic, but as remember back then they only paid around three or four grand a year and a lot of them started out around 85 cents an hour in the late fifties/early sixties. That is why a lot of people used to be a ranger.

That is why a lot of people used to be a ranger. Things have improved a little since then but it still isn't the right field of work to get rich in. But it paid my bills until I could find something a little better. Toughest part for me was to be away from my family and friends for so long. Now I can go enjoy camping instead of cleaning up everyone's messes and I know some great places to stay.

The sign says on the bottom great northern paper company. Which was a huge paper mill company/ landowner in millinocket, Maine. They owned a huge amount of land in northern maine. Just a guess on my part but this picture was likely taken near Millinocket / baxter state park when both mills operated. Those cars and trailers may have been eaten alive on the dirt logging roads further from town.

Boy, do I NOT miss those clumsy, heavy, smelly old tents! We'll take Hamlet any day!
