My Shasta Compact has a Holiday stove/oven. Should the pilot light in the oven be lit and just stay lit? Seems like a waste of propane but if it isn't lit I would think propane would build up in the oven. I've been turning the propane tank on and off and lighting the pilot when using the stove which is kind of a pain.

There is a shut off under the stove top in Holiday stoves. Turn it off when the oven will not be used:

That picture is awful! but it works for education purposes. LOL.
I'm going to take a better one the next Holiday I work on...

This must not be the same model Holiday that is in my Shasta Compact because there is no valve and I don't think there is a pilot light. Or I'm missing something. When we lit ours, we looked and ended up just sticking a match to it and turning it on. It's basically on and off temp markings on the dial.

Check around for manuals on the board. I think there is one that show how to adjust the pilot light. Mine is in a 61 and I pull the oven temp knob off and there is an access hole to an adjustment screw. Use a flat head that fits correctly. If the screw does turn easily you can break it. If its stuck you can get it loose but it takes some work.
First test the lines for leaks. Then test with a lighter to see if its on when the tank is on. Mine was screwed in which should shut the pilot off. I leave it that way unless I want to use the oven. The stove top is separate so you can still cook. The design varies a little depending on the year. Our 63 had a thermocouple safety on it.
