I couldn't find mobiltech's post about using water and newspaper to remove the glue and backing from vinyl flooring, so I started a new thread, but it really does work! The newspaper helps keep the glue from getting all over everything. I still was covered in the gunk before I was done, but the floor is totally clean. After pulling up the newspaper and gunk, I used a scrub brush and water to remove any trace of glue. Now, what to do about the floor. I'm thinking of painting the plywood in a checkerboard pattern. My home was built in 1855 and I have painted floors in my entire second story. I love them. Seems like it might be work in a trailer.
I think I am finally moving forward on this project. I missed my first deadline (June 21st), but I'm hoping to get her ready for fair week (July 21st.)
Thanks Cheri

A lot of people use armstrong tiles that look like the old vintage. You can get them in any checkerboard colour you want and they are really cheap. Maybe a dollar each.

I had really bad luck with Armstrong tiles. Granted, they were a year or so old. After a nice installation, they looked fine. First rally, the sun hit them and they bubbled and lifted. Really annoying...

I don't know about brands. Just not happy with Armstrong or tiles.. I use sheet goods to prevent the above.

Vikx that doesn't sound like a VCT failure but a glue failure. If done correctly VCT will only come back up in pieces.

Vikx you need to see my VCT install vids LOL... Did you let the glue dry before you laid the tile?
Cheri all you had to do was ask for the link. That's what everyone else does. I might need to update the website and make sure that one is listed on there. You can always just search my You Tube site using key words and the stuff usually comes up. Glad it worked for you. Hope you had an easier time with it than I did. I recommend that the wetting of the paper is done in the evening so it will stay wet all night. Not during the day when it's 100 degrees outside like I did.

They were SELF STICK tiles... of course the glue was dry. Snicker.

When I removed the floor covering it was in the 90s and raining, but the paper got dry anyway while I went to town town for a couple hours. It still worked great. As long as long as the moisture gets all the way through to the glue, your good to go. Your video made it seem really easy that's why I tried it. The key is to either do it at night as you said or get away from the camper. Trying to mess with it too soon creates a big mess. (Not that I would do that ) The only complaint I had was that I got glue all over me trying to get every last bit off the floor, but I can give it a light sanding and I'll be good to go. I have no idea what I would have done if you had not shared this tip. Thanks

You're welcome Cheri. Ya I had it on my knees because my pants all have holes in the knees LOL. But it is water soluable so it came off in the shower. If you didn't get it all over you, you did something wrong... LOL
Glad it worked out. I just posted that video on my Trailer Tidbits page so that it can be found easier. All of my videos are indexed on my website now so everyone can find what they need without searching too hard.
