The cooling unit must be rebuilt. They can not be recharged. That is our conundrum today: we can't fix our old refrigerators because the companies doing the cooling units won't rebuild outdated models.
Example of cost: $75 shipping to the rebuilder, $600 rebuild cost, $75 back to customer = $750. A new model propane fridge is a little less. And, with no units available for rebuild, new is the only choice.
Propane refrigerators are expensive. An alternative would be a larger dorm fridge to fill the hole. Not ideal, but will work when on shore power.
NOTE: I think the above companies are missing the boat on our vintage fridges. Too bad.

Ok so I plugged in the elec and nothing happened =( do you think I need it charged ? Can you get amonia Plug it in with a thermometer inside and maybe a small ice tray in the freezer and let it sit at least 8 hours. Some of these units take a while to cool down

Will do, my husband thought maybe I didn't leave it plugged in long enough.

while investigating today and listening to Vikx if it doesn't work I am going to save for a new one. The cost for a rebuilt cooling unit is just as much as getting a whole new unit. But I did plug it in and put a frozen water bottle inside and a thermometer we will see in 8 hours or so if it is working or not.
