We are upgrading all the electrical in the trailer. Can I buy some sort of modern outlet to replace the old one on the side of the trailer... . One that our modern cord can attach to? If not, what do you do to cover the hole, and where do you run the new cord out of? On our newer trailer, it stays coiled under a seat and pulls out though a covered hole, but the old hole is very high on my vintage trailer, so I don't think that would work... I hope this question makes sense, if not I'll post a photo..

There's several things you can do.
1. Use the original cover and blank the hole. (waterproofing tape) 2. Use the original cover and install an "outside" plug that pulls out for use. 3. Put a stainless marine cover over the blanked hole. 4. Install a modern motor base (backwards) inlet in the original hole.
Most of my trailers use a separate cord to plug in. It is not attached to the trailer until it is needed.

Ok.. perfect. I am going to buy the one that installs in the hole and then you attach the cord to it.

Is this the right kind? That should work. It looks like a 30 amp which is good. You will also need the cord made by that manufacturer or one just like it to plug into that.

It's worth looking around. There is better pricing sometimes than say an RV store or camping world. There are also many different colors and styles so you can coordinate with your trailer's look. I spent more because I'm a little ADD and like shiny things.

If your inlet is up high, I'm not sure I would install a Marinco/Furion type. The cord and adapter is HEAVY and will look funny sticking out way up like that...
Any pictures?

I'd move it down for sure. You will either have a 15 amp up high or a 15/30 down low. I don't like the high plug ins... that ugly cord hanging down and all.
Lots of options to cover the hole.

Hi, The picture of the 30 amp cord looks like the one on my 1978 Taurus. Can anyone explain to me how it works and can I get some kind of adapter so I can plug it into an extension cord to the house? Or how does this all work. I'm electrically challenged (my dad was an expert, I'd ask him but he's in heaven now).

@vikx I am over my head on this one. Is there a basic electrical thread that she can read? That may be a help...

Hi Friends,
I know this is an older thread, but what about mounting underneath?
I ran into a guy who restored a Spartan and he told me he mounted all his electricals and water inlets underneath, so that they wouldn't be visible and he wasn't cutting holes in the side of the trailer.
Cheers,
Rod

I'm running my waste (sink) pipe underneath but I'll leave the intake water line in the side. Also the electrical will stay in the side. Mainly because I don't want to crawl on the ground, which is often wet, to attach everything.
