Nice work, looks like you'll be camping in it again in no time.

Thanks! I've worked my way around to the easy side now. Here's the front streetside, almost ready to re-insulate and close back up. I opened it up to check things out, rewire the tow lights with heavier gauge wire and run new wires for interior electricity. The framing is in excellent shape on this entire side of the trailer. I pulled back both rear panels for a peek there too, and I don't even have to remove them, although I did loosen them up to help run the wires.

My electrician son-in-law was out on the weekend to take a look at the wires I'd run and he gave me the go ahead to close things up. It took me two tries, but I got the new ceiling panel up today. I cut the first one just a little too big and one of the edges on the end jammed and split. Good thing I bought a couple of extra sheets in case I screwed up! Now I'm planning to use the damaged one to line the underside of the fold-up bunk at the back of the camper. The damaged part would get trimmed off in that case and I wouldn't be wasting a good-sized piece of birch plywood. I think it would look a little better than the paint that's on it right now. That job isn't very high on my priority list right now though. Once I got the panel up I cut out the vent opening with my router using a flush trimming bit. I haven't used my router in years. Seems like this project is using every tool I own, plus a couple of new ones! (oops....looks like in my excitement to get a photo I forgot to pull off the bits of tape I used to mark my nailing lines first!) Although I was feeling pretty frustrated this morning, I'm feeling quite a sense of accomplishment now that I finally got it done.

Thanks! I haven't had much to post lately. I've been sanding. And sanding. And sanding. I want to get the outside painted so the windows can go back in and I can get her closed up to the elements before I do anything else inside. We keep having showering weather here this spring.

I've got the the door reinstalled (Yay!!! it doesn't stick any more!!!) and the skins back on, but not all the screws put in yet. I've been sanding to get ready for paint and thought it would be easier without them. It has taken a long time to get the sanding done. The paint that had been rolled on previously had developed little tiny wrinkles all over it. I'm certainly not expecting perfection, but I sure wasn't going to paint over that! I started out with the plan to strip the paint with chemical, but gave up on that after getting some on my own skin despite being really careful with it. I'm almost done sanding and beginning to plan seriously for the paint. I also got the replacement rear interior birch paneling in place, and put some panel on the underside of the bunk plywood which had previously just been painted. I think it will look much nicer to walk in and see birch all along the back.

I've been scrambling to get paint on between rainshowers. We've got them in the forecast daily! So here's my first ever go at spray painting. As I said before I wasn't expecting perfection, and I didn't get it, lol, but she ended up looking pretty decent if you don't stand too close. She'll be good enough for anyplace we plan to take her. I might need to put on another coat of the pink (Tofino Sunset) though. I was applying fairly thin layers since I was worried about having a bunch of runs. I'll give it another day to dry and see what I think. I'm happy with the coverage of the white coats though. Once I'm sure that I'm done I think I'll add a black pinstripe wherever the pink and the white meet. I saw a photo of one done like that somewhere and it stuck in my mind as looking pretty impressive. Originally she was entirely this shade of pink with two white stripes, one where the stripe in the photo is, and another longer stripe just below the centre horizontal seam. I had the pink paint colour-matched to the original which I found under the door and window trims. I used BenjaminMoore Super Spec DTM Industrial Maintenance Coating alkyd in semi-gloss. The curbside is where I'm not too sure of the paint coverage. And I didn't notice until taping the lines that the pattern of the tin is off a little. I did my best to get things straight. I'm not sure what else I can do about it. The photo angle kind of accentuates the problem here. Now I need to finish polishing up the windows and the j-rail so I can get her all closed up again and get back to the inside work.

4sweeper, she looks fine! We all go thru the "I coulda done it betters"... I like your idea of semi gloss on a trailer with a few beauty marks.

Vikx, thanks for your supportive and encouraging words. It's really good to hear that from somebody who has way more experience than I do.

Do you have any comments about the Benjamin Moore DTM paint? I didn't know about it until after I was committed to something else. How did it go on, drying time, cost, etc?

yas, here in Canada the price was $50/gallon. I got a gallon of each colour and used approx half of each pail. My trailer body is 14'x7'. Keep in mind that I'm a complete newbie at this when you read my comments, and I have no idea how well the paint is going to hold up. I did some research, and this paint seemed like the best locally available option in my price range which was also tintable so I decided to try it. I've gambled more money than that on more risky experiments over the years :-) The outside temp was around 22C (70F)and sunny. I sprayed on the paint in very thin layers and it seemed to me that in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours it would take another coat, so that's what I did. The paint application instructions say not to thin, but I did anyway with some mineral spirits so it would flow through my hvlp gun easier. It took me 6 really thin coats to get to this stage. I did the white on one day, and by the next day it was set enough that I could tape off for the pink and none of the paint lifted when I pulled the tape off. I did roll the upper stripes on with a 4" micro fibre roller and it only took 2 coats, but needed a lot longer drying time before I felt safe adding the second coat. I did the first coat in the morning and the second in the evening. I really liked how the paint went on, but then, I have nothing to compare it to. I really feel that I have to add once again that I don't know how this will hold up, it's just what I chose to do.

4sweeper: Thanks for that. Direct to metal paint, tintable, $50/gallon - that sounds like a good option. I have several of my aluminum test panels left, I may buy some different paints and try a few things before I paint another trailer.
