Hello from Sacramento, CA  I wasn't a part of the Shasta message boards, but that's how I came across this one (it was still a great resource for snippets of general vintage trailer info even without a Shasta). I am on the cusp of picking up my 1957 (or is it a 59, no one knows! lol) Field and Stream trailer this very afternoon. It's been lovingly restored by a nice man named Scott who has redone everything from the frame and skin to everything in between. He's done a great job, but it's time for it to come home to it's new family. I'm so excited that I think I got about three hours sleep last night.. lol! Anyhow, just wanted to pipe in and say hello. Will post more once we get the trailer home!! |

Hello again! It's so nice to come home to a few replies here!! So, we went and got the trailer and despite it being quite rainy - we had No issues getting it home! *phew*! Everything looks great inside and out. We sat in there for a while chatting, listening to the sound of the pitter-patter rain, not wanting to get going!! haha. In any case, once we got home- a look over the inside revealed a little bit of water which must have come in through the seal in the front window. Confident that Scott will help address that asap. Really nice! Window issue should be addressed as soon as possible so as not to permanently mark your interior walls. Congrats again and enjoy.

I'm sure someone else will chime in, but from my limited time here, I think caulking is frowned upon. You might want to hold off a bit and make sure, since removing it can be a pain. Oh, and welcome! You trailer is very cute.

Cool layout, haven't seen that on any other trailer that length. Congrats, it looks great. And yes, take care of the window ASAP, without caulking. Caulking doesn't address the underlying problem.

There are a number of different reasons a window may leak, but non of them should be fixed with chalking. As Hamlet stated it does NOT address the underlying problem and will only make a repair more difficult as removing the chalking is a Pita and takes hours of picking at etc. If Mark can`t get right on it...then I suggest finding where its getting in and depending where it is, maybe a piece of duck tape or even a tarp. The easiest way that we`ve found to detect where the water is entering, is to use a hose (on trickle NOT full blast). Start across the bottom of the window and slowly work your way up with someone inside looking for a sign of water. Hope this helps!
