I'm planning on mounting my flat panel TV on the closet wall facing the rear in my Shasta Compact. I'm also considering hiding the cords through the closet wall and putting an outlet in the closet for it as well.
If you have pics of your TV, especially in a Compact, please share.
Thanks.

I'm in the process of doing this currently on my Mallard. Mounted it "hidden" to the back of closet wall under a shelf, wiring inside the closet, antenna wiring will go down through the floor. The TV is mounted to an flat aluminum bracket which is mounted to a stainless piano hinge that swings on the corner of the closet so the TV can be flipped around 180 degrees and also viewed from the kitchen table.
I still need to fab a bracket to hold the TV stationary during travel, and run the coax antenna wiring. I want to have the option to steal the Direct TV box from home while traveling, so I will need to come up with a portable dish at some point.

Yeah.. I am in the process as well. The PO has a coax plate on the exterior of the camper already. So for the time being I figured I'd just roll with it instead of body working and filling the hole. Cable and plug is in the "reefer cubby", easy access for my rework. We are not big TV watchers when we're are in the field. Usually we take along some movies from the Public library for a rainy night on the laptop, but with a redbox being at every "Pump and Munch" store, recent movies are everywhere. I am looking for a bracket for the foot of the bed (Goucho) in the rear of our unit. I want it to swing out,(turn face at 45 degrees and face the front so we can watch it from the Dinette as well. I have not had much luck in my search. The flat screen is a simple one with a built in DVD player. I'll keep you posted when I start hitting hard SzQ.. (I think it's item 2, list 2 on the 3rd weekend before Hiwasssi.. )

My Dad would have said, "If you are going to watch that damned TV, stay home! I'm going camping!"

On the wall in my home, because if you need a tv why go camping. You asked so I'll tell you! We have a TV in the teardrop and seldom use it. We usually have no signal or are too tired at the days end to care but sometimes, it's nice. Short story version - We spent a week camping at a rally, everyone left. We were basically stranded while work was being done on TD, then the boy has accident while I was packing to leave. On the way home from the ER we rented movies. I had to stay away all night and wake him up every two hours. I was glad to have a TV, even if it was just for movies. We have a weather radio, but it's nice to see the forecast if channels are available.

This is one of those questions where vintage and modernizing intersects. It used to be pretty easy to throw a portable tv/radio combo in the gear and fire it up if you wanted. Now that the descramblers and dishes and sub-space radio is necessary to catch the 6-o-clock news, makes working into the scheme a little more difficult. As much as I like Dad's advice, it seems I will be working something into the plans.

I guess I could jump into this thread with a personal response and say all those things I truly believe about camping and TV. However, the lady ask a simple question about thoughts on where she could place her TV, not about views of individual preferences of whether you like tv or not. I guess that is one thing about this (or any) forum that bothers me, the thread gets hijacked off on something that has absolutely nothing to do with the original question. So, Suzie, I would put the TV in the spot that makes the most sense to you based on your use of the available space. Because I have 10 gandkids and take them camping frequently (in my motorhome), they like to lay on a bed and watch movies so I would place it so that can be accomplished. Given the size of the compact (of which I am more than familiar with) the spot you have selected makes the most sense. Now, my compact won't have a tv or for that matter, any way to watch a tv. That is simply because my wife and I don't make it a priority to watch tv. We don't have cable or satellite in our home. We do watch tv to check out the weather and news so we don't get lost in the outside world but it isn't a priority. Having said that now, when we made our trip to Arkansas last year, TV was certainly a big part of our lives as we were ducking tornadoes and watching weather patterns for a very large part of our trip. So, SuzieQ, good luck and I think the spot you have chosen will work fine. I would suggest though that instead of hiding the outlet in the closet you simply use a recessed box and put an outlet right behind the TV. Good luck

You asked so I'll tell you! I think you took my joke a little too literally! Sorry Haha! No, but it did make me think. I actually had a hard time justifying the purchase of a TV for the amount of time that it was used. But we will have a little more room in the Compact. That one instance is truly the only time I was grateful to have it.

LOL, We will have the possibility to "turn on" Sirrus Radio, and/or a TV while camping for only one reason. My wife is "addicted to NASCAR", and needs to know how her boyfriend Jeff Gordon is doing on Sunday's.
After 47 years of marriage, I have finally learned that "a happy wife", leads to "a happy life".

Good luck I do have a sense of humor and we are still talking about TV's in the camper. It's all good! 61, I might as well confess that I have 10 grandkids, too. Two of them lived with me for a year and when we camped, they weren't happy to be stuck in the tent that attaches to my TD, so that is one of my reasons for upgrading. Besides, it has become cramped since my son has grown into a tall young man. I look forward to camping with them, not all at one time, mind you. And I'm sure they will enjoy some TV and/or a movie. Thanks for the idea for the recessed outlet.
