I'm needing new tires for the Shasta and was told by Sears that if I use regular car tires they'll shred because of the wiggling and swaying back and forth. Do you guys use tires made for trailers or do you put radials on?

for sure use trailer tires, they have much stiffer side walls than car tires, CAR TIRES BAD!

They are rated for trailers (TL) I believe, their was a good thread on this on the other board. and the very common consensus was ONLY use trailer tires, this is safer, and really helps with the whipping back and forth of the camper that is common with car tires on a trailer.

Universal, those are sweet! Did you have to special order them? I didn't see them listed on their shop now site. But geez $225 a piece plus shipping....that is definitely an investment. Especially given that the underying tire retails for about $50-80! simpletire.com/gt-radial-maxmiler-st-tiresI'm sure they use some kind of special process to get the whitewall on....put I can't really see paying that kind of mark up.

Anyone know what the bolt pattern is and what tire I would need for a 65 Shasta Compact? Need tires. Would like White walls but might be cost prohibitive.

Tom, I would bet the bolt pattern on yours is 5 on 4.5", that's what mine is. I have a '64 or '65 Compact....... the jury is still out on the year. Jeff

Well, I found out that Walmart sells trailer tires on their website so I bought a pair and had them shipped to a local store here. They are radial trailer tires and paid $59/ea. The same tires through Tractor Supply and Orschleins was $85 and $90, respectively.

Jeff, Check to be sure at your wallyworld but ours will only do them if you bring in the rims/tires and NOT on the trailer. Just a heads up. Also the trailer tires they sell in the store are much more narrow than say TowMasters. Good luck! Soup

Soup, I didn't have to bring anything in except my printed receipt. I cleaned and painted the old rims, had the new tires installed at my local gas station and are on the camper.
