When I was on my recent cruise in the Caribbean I noticed that the cruise lines had a cool way of camouflaging the fridge doors in the staterooms, and I realized that this same approach could be used to create a vintage looking ice box door and install it onto a modern fridge. I took some photos.. here it is. #1 How the door looks while closed. (You could paint this, and attach a vintage icebox handle and trim) #2 How it looks while opening.. notice the slide bar attached to the back of the wood door. #3 Now here is the bar close up and a side view of the u shaped attachment they used to secure it to the fridge. A cool and easy idea!

I should mention, that the position of the fridge is that it sits exactly even with the edge of the cabinet when it's (original) door is closed. And they left an air space at the top and installed a vent on the top side for exhausting hot air. I have a link for a replacement vintage style icebox handle that you can order. It's off of a "new" 110 replica vintage fridge that is sold on amazon. I tracked down the parts department and they will sell just the handle and trim if you want it. I will post the link here later today.

This is a great idea and one that I have thought about before. Just haven't found an icebox hole that is deep enough to do it yet. As with the 59 Shasta a Dometic that fit's in the hole sticks out a bit... Might work with a wood frame around it though.
