Please tell me what you'd do to update this table top. All suggestions welcome.

I want to do one that looks like this: Birch-faced plywood and polyurethane. This is from the 1950 Terry Rambler that has a thread in the for sale section.

I agree with the birch approach.. unless you are planning to change all your laminate, I think it would look best if it matched the existing elements in the design. But if you are planning new laminate throughout .. then there are some wonderful retro patterns available online. I have ordered free samples of all the ones I like so that I can co-ordinate all the colors to match. Here is a link to the retro samples in case you don't already know about this place. Click on the words below to go there... A moment in time Heffrons

Lady W, I love the boomerang pattern! The soft geometrics of the design are extremely appealing. I actually used it my main kitchen in our house (the coral) and it looks wonderful and has held up better than I could have imagined. We have enough left over to use in our trailer, but I'm leaning away from it because I think the coral wouldn't be the best with the turquoise appliances. Can't wait to see what you settle on!

There's two trailers worth in one sheet. Might want to pair up with someone to purchase this expensive stuff. Last time I purchased boomerang I paid $150 per 4x8 sheet.

Its now up to $300+ dollars a sheet… But whats an extra $200 dollars when you have already clearly lost all reason!

I love the boomerang retro...but that birch table is pretty awesome. For me it would depend on the look on the trailer. I'd probably end up keeping the original.

Well, shoot me. I love the original table! I'd work on other stuff and go camping with it! Might as well, when camping, you're sleeping on top of it all night and outside doing other stuff during the day. That table top would be the last thing in the project I would do (after the sink counter top), like icing on a cake. LOL

A couple comments: First, is the paneling birch? If so, then, by all means do it birch if you want. If it isn't birch, I'd probably just work around the original if it's in good shape. Second, I wouldn't be concerned about coral laminate and turquoise appliances. IF you use subtle fabrics for the curtains and cushions that can pull the two together, it could be wonderful.
Good luck!

One more note from me: I'm going to keep the original table for my Airflyte, and probably make a second birch one. I'm not going to destroy the original - tables are easy to make.

We used the aqua boomerang laminate in our trailer, but due to demand and lack of availability, one sheet cost us $500. The aqua was made in one run about 7 years ago and then discontinued, so finding some is a hit or miss deal.
