OK - so both of my trailers have a working propane stove. Whether either will actually get used except for heating water is still debatable. I'm trying to decide which type of grill to purchase for outside cooking.
I have always preferred the taste of food cooked with charcoal. However, we had a natural gas outside grill at home for years.
I know I can get the propane grill up and cooking faster than waiting on the charcoal to heat - but if I'm camping, I don't think time is an issue.
So what are your preferences? And do you have a grill for camping that you couldn't imagine being without?

I do have a small grill that can be used in my trailer, but I do like the taste of charcoal with hardwood chips. I guess the issue here is time, what is the hurry, set and visit, eat sunflower seeds, fish while you are preparing your charcoal fire. mmmmm hurry up warmer weather.

I have both and use them based on timing and conditions. If you prefer charcoal here is a tip; Carry one of those small propane torches that you can attach to the little propane bottles, lay your briquettes out in the grill and pass the torch over them a few times until you see grey starting to form on the edges. It is not quite as fast as the propane grill but it cuts the preheating time by more than 50%. The grill I use is the smallest one of the domed lit type and takes up very little space. The propane one I carry is the regular small rectangular one.

I carry a Coleman propane camping stove. But we really like to cook over an open wood fire when they are allowed. And I carry a propane torch attachment to start my fires, too.
I have the icebox and stove/oven in the Compact which are next to each other. The oven looks like it has never been used. My question is, wouldn't the oven heat up the icebox being they are next to each other?

We either cook on the stove or over a wood campfire. We typically carry only camp chairs and a little "end" table to go between them, plus long skewers for the fire and heavy foil to wrap anything we want to cook in the fire.

Maybe we could put our heads together and make one with a slide in burner in a compact size and leave the smoke box off

We use a Coleman stove to cook on; cooking fumes inside: uh, not for me. Charcoal might be OK, but I would use a throw away grill to keep from having to carry the briquets, grill, lighter, etc. Love the idea of tin foil and the camp fire...

Vikx, I have that little round grill, too and it is very light and portable. I can survive with just it even if I don't carry the Coleman camping stove.

It doesn't seem to affect the temp in the icebox, but before we put it back in, we built a lot of extra insulation into the space around it.

Open campfire, cast iron and tin foil only! Except the enameled coffee pot.
Those and the electric hot plate, electric coffee pot, roaster, crock pot etc! LOL (I never cook inside my camper)
