The Aljo went to California, towed like a dream...owner has a 3/4 ton diesel Ford. A little overkill. LOL.
That being said, we use a vehicle with a 5000 lb tow capacity and factory tow package. I would not go less. In fact, my "other" truck is 7500. The factory tow package includes a tranny cooler, hitch and proper 7 way wiring. You add the brake controller.
I like your idea of keeping the Forester and being on the Hunt for a canned ham! You have joined the rest of us; it's an addiction. Little trailers are like potato chips...

Love your trailer! The interior is AWESOME! Some other photos. I was surprised that the former owners had time to paint the outside 20 times with house paint, but left the inside untouched. Thanks goodness. Enjoy your day.

My V6 has the factory tow package but rated only up to 3500 pounds. Not really enough. I paid to have the brake controls put in for the camper when...to my surprise...the man putting new tires on for me tested the electric brakes which worked perfectly. They really help a lot. The dealer told me to keep the overdrive off and the truck will handle the hills better. On flatter ground it's really fine. In the Blue Ridge Mountains it was a lot of work for a V6, and we may want to go back to the Rockies at some point, so ultimately a lighter (second) camper may make the most sense for long hauls. It still seems crazy that a 13 foot camper (empty) can weigh 2600 pounds. 800 pounds more than the Shasta AirFlyte. More than double the Shasta 1400. Around 1000 pounds more than the Aljo. Live and learn!

Yeah.. That's the ticket "The dealer told me to keep the overdrive off and the truck will handle the hills better." Our Loflyte is around 2000#, I have a pretty beefy 6 in my Dodge Ram 1500. I never, ever pull with the Over Drive on. I might if I was on the flats going to the eastern part of NC or something, perhaps. But under the advice of a few others, plus the owner’s manual I stay away from it. I don't run that fast anyhow when in tow. 65+/- is my max speed and that is usually because of traffic flow. I have flipped it off and on some while drivng a straight run, I just didn’t like the way it felt or sounded either. I fear burning the transmission out and I do not want to buy another vehicle for a while. Just me.

I agree the weights seem very different. I suggest weighing any trailer because I don't trust the manufacturers info. My SCS (similar to an Airflyte in size) is a big girl, we can't even move her with the trailer dolly by ourselves. And she is currently gutted (no panels, stove out, tanks gone, etc)
I wouldn't go by what is "said" to be the weight. Put it on a scale, that will tell you the true weight.

Question on your '62. Does yours have a bumper? I can find pics of some with and without. I just looked at a 61-62 ... not sure... but it had no bumper ... a PO put a tube bumper on it . It was $500 but the interior was trash. I wanted the 62 for parts for my 63 but the body and frame are actually quite different...

Good info!!! One of each!!! On this one, There were factory looking bolt on brackets a few feet after the wheels and the home made bumper was attached to them. I'm thinking the factory bumper , if you have one, bolts onto the frame? On 63-68 foresters, the bumper is just the frame extended beyond the body. If the bumper is lower than the frame on pre 64 foresters I could see where they could get damaged or in the way and simply get unbolted and removed. just a theory at this point. Pics of brackets etc of multiple foresters would prove it. I don't have a gas ax or welding equipment so I see extra hassles and $$$$ to fix when bumpers are hacked off. but if they bolt on, that's a different story.

Tube welded into frame. I welded the second out-rigging/framing piece recently for extra support, sanded everything and painted with the textured Rusto Hammered. That was an ugly job.
