So I found a cute little trailer for a decent price but I have never seen this type of trailer in all my searching. The owner says its a 1968 smokey travel trailer. Anyone every hear of this? He claims it weighs 800lbs and is 13 ft long (scratches head)

Yes, there's one in our neighborhood that we had been trying to convince them to sell us but no go, so we finally found a Shasta instead. They don't use it, recently bought a new pop-up, but want to keep Smokey anyway. I cringe every time we drive by because they don't cover it and I just know it's getting water damaged. They came to check out our Shasta a couple years ago and we suggested they cover Smokey but nope Really cute little trailer. After the snow and ice goes away here, I will go take a pic and post. Only Smokey I have ever seen.

I think I know the trailer your taking about, is in DC? If that is the one, beware of the "fluff" job. Smokey's should have a wood interior, paint hides a lot of damage. They showed the dented in top front, more then likely there are pin holes in the aluminum that you really can't see. There are electrical issues because it is pictured with cheap magnetic lights on the bumper. Something is up with the rear window on the curb side, because it has wood window casing around it so I doubt it is a RV window, and it looks like the drawers are falling out or broken. I can see ripples in the ceiling above the dinette, tell tell signs of water damaged paneling. If this is the trailer, it's way over priced. washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/rvs/4328444370.html

I ran across a 68 Smokey in Steamboat Springs, CO.
It's in the last half of this video.

The guy moved it over to eBay I guess no one was biting fast enough bit.ly/1iOGEXqNow I'm looking at a little scotty this weekend if it doesn't sell. The price seems high for it at $3800...but I figure it can't hurt to look.

They are a pain to repair unless your working inside a garage with a ton of room and plan on doing a frame off restore. Just sayin I'd rather have a rotted Shasta than a rotted scotty to fix.

I'm glad you said it Soup. I was going to post about this yesterday but the stupid forum wouldn't let me and I gave up. I hate always having to be the bad guy when it comes to the simple truth. Thanks for taking some of the weight.

Yeah I ended up getting her to send me extra photos and I noticed a large dent in the corner. So with that price and the damage I'm gonna keep looking. Plus she is sending me a lot of photos of things zoomed in so I feel like she may be hiding a little bit more and I'm not gonna drive 4 hrs to be disappointed.

I agree the Scotty is a pass. Price is high for that kind of damage.
Have you considered a nicely rebuilt trailer? The prices are higher, but you'll know it's sound and ready to go... There's a Little Dipper not far from me for 5K. (WA State)

I've considered paying more for one that's restored but I would have to be in love lol. I do want a little project but since I'm totally new and i want to be cautious about going over my head...i would love to be camping in my trailer by the end of the year.
and Washington is clear across the state for me- I'm in Jersey :-(

I found a "rebuilt" trailer but I'm ho-humming the price. It's a 68' shasta compact which he reprinted but you can see some love dings. He added plumbing to the toilet and a hot water heater. He says the trailer guys say he can get 5 grand for it but I really think that's way to high. Am I crazy for only thinking I should pay about 3 for it?

If you are looking at rebuilt trailers make sure what you are buying there is a MAJOR difference between rebuilt and painted. Ask for pictures of the rebuilding process showing repair or at least visual inspection of the wood frame work as many trailers have deteriorating sill boards which support the walls. Also has electrical wiring been upgraded. Is the chassis and springs and axle including brakes been inspected for defects then rebuilt or replaced as needed? Have windows and roof vents been removed and resealed not just caulked around the edges. A trailer that has been completely rebuilt with pictures to prove how it was done is worth the investment, A trailer that has just been cleaned and painted to look nice may be a nightmare beyond your wildest dreams. Good Luck in your hunt.
