Hey everyone, I have a piece of plastic that has been weather worn and pretty much crumbled away. The piece is from the door entrance grab handle, it kind of insets into the camper and is pretty much just crumbling away. Wondering if any of you have successfully repaired this/made a replica out of anything. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to post a picture of it. Thanks in advance for your help! JR

A picture is what we need... There are instructions in every section on posting photos. You must upload to Photobucket and get a link before the picture will show up here...

The part in question still "looks fairly complete". Have you considered replicating it in fiberglass?
Use the original part as a pattern for a negative mold, repair the missing side pieces with a popsickle stick, a little epoxie, smooth with some Bondo, spray some primer/filler, and sand it smooth.
Then use the repaired piece to "make a mold", to cast your new part.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. LOL

I may have seen similar in metal. They were on old truck campers in the 70s or so... Might be worth a hunt.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have considered the fiberglass route. As of right now it seems like the best route, how would I keep the fiberglass from adhering to the plastic? Or do I just fiber glass right over it?

Several coats of plain old Johnson's Paste Wax will work as a mold release.

Jezz! Finally!!!; www.autopartsasap.com/Bargman-Assist-Bar-Lighted-with-Switch-Chrome-70-32-001.htmlLooks like another Bargman part that has been discontinued. Better try above link for purchase before they run out. I'll still check where I work tomorrow. We have 4 different locations and I'm sure I should be able to find one somewhere if you can't get one from this link on this post. Better buy one while you still can!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know if you get one. Be sure to check size and specs. Looks like they made a few different sizes back in the day. Soup
