Thanks for pointing that out. I thought they were also called fridges. Never thought it had propane or electric. I just have the drain line, no propane line visible. I believe it was just an ice box fridge that didn't need vents. Is an "icebox" easier to find? Is an icebox smaller to fit through the door and are they lighter? Trailers with vents either had an original optional propane refrigerator or added vents is what I'm now gathering. I am looking for an original 1963 icebox, not a refrigerator. Greg, The iceboxes are easier to find, but still takes time/timing and luck. If you want to have original, then expect to expand your search geographically. Maybe a trip to Nevada? I am serious. You are probably aware of search tempest www.searchtempest.com/ with your car restorations. Search Tempest can be used for Facebook Marketplace as well as Craigslist. You might not need the info but maybe a newby could use this. I once chose to drive to Bakersfield about 2 hours away to pick up a nice princess stove for my Westerner I found on ebay. Larry (Mobiltec) often says that you are in for the longest treasure hunt of your life when you start one of these restorations. Yep, pretty much. Rod

Shasta used various appliance suppliers for their trailers all the time. I have seen various models of both Princess and Holiday stoves in Airflytes, some with an oven thermostat and some without. Some had direct vent heaters beside the entrance door and some had them in the floor. Mostly I remember seeing the Morphy Richards Astral fridge with the rounded door or a squared off aluminum framed icebox door. They often come up for sale if you keep an eye out for them. There is one for sale right now on Kijiji in Edmonton Alberta that is the same size my original fridge was and it's only 18" deep so it will fit sideways through the door.. www.kijiji.ca/v-fishing-camping-outdoor/edmonton/vintage-rv-icebox/1668781730Thanks for the info. The one for sale is well priced, but I can see I need more education. If the rounded ones were used in 63, that will be my preference. I have only seen the squared ones so far in 63 and I believe the ice storage part was aluminum. I have a grey holiday oven in great shape. I wonder if they used a holiday oven, did they use a certain icebox? What color should the icebox be? I am presuming painting one may be in the cards. My Formica is yellow if that matters.

Finally was able to join Facebook and learned of search tempest maybe from you on another post. Been complaining about Craigs List search abilities for over two decades. Still will be complaining, but tempest surely helps in a huge way. Unfortunately, I will be complaining about Facebook's Marketplace searching abilities for who knows how long. Ebay isn't perfect, but they surely are the best in search function. It is like these people who create these sites never search to see the dysfunctions. Driving isn't an issue, but I can see I need to learn more first to get it right.

Thanks, maybe Mobilaire in grey is the icebox I'm missing. Didn't know the ice tray is plastic.

Ya know, before i found the marvel for my trailer i was tossin around a couple options. One was to fabricate an ice box to fit the opening just as i have seen them in the 40's trailers, find some photos and recreate it just as it were. Two; was to get a mini fridge and make a vintage wooden ice box door like the original, I had seen an article years ago of someone doing this but have not seen the article since, it was done rather well. On the downside the modern mini fridges dont really match the openings, they are made short enough to fit under a counter top or taller than the opening and never wide enough. however, if your wanting to have an original, which i understand, those options wont do.

Hi Friends, I know Greg, the OP has his mind made up, but I will add something to Jesse's post above for the sake of concept. My post is no way to be construed as a recommendation to go with modern. It's just some info for anyone coming along reading the thread. NCcamper restored a 1963 Shasta 1500 and Had to insert a modern dorm fridge. It was too small for the opening. He framed the opening. And finished it off this way. Cheers, Rod
