We got our little Shasta Compact back in 2009. Before we did much work on it, we sat inside and just got the vibes it sent out. Needed a name. It’s a “canned ham” trailer, but with a 10 foot box, really too small to be a full “can.” We named him Hamlet. Looking back, I’m glad we named him, he’s been a part of the family for nearly 15 years and for us, it’d be akin to having a child we just called “kid.”

Hamlet, that's a really good name. I know exactly what you mean about the vibes inside. When I wasn't camping in it, I often use it as my office. This is from when we still used clothespins to attach all the curtain samples we'd ordered. I took it to a few car shows, too. At one of them, I ran into someone from my old home town, a friend of my sister whom I hadn't seen in decades. Her husband told me he had just the radio for me. Went to their place a couple days later and he gave me this Marconi from the 1960s. It still works, too.
I wrote an article for Vintage Camper Trailer magazine about how we found the Shasta and had it restored, so I display that edition, too. Here's the pair at the annual gathering of the local Oldsmobile Club. And another car show that happens every Sunday about 10 minutes from home. My wife found a place that made these matching chairs. Brand new, using old seat belts.

The chairs match perfectly! I was thinking the same thing and bought two chairs from Lawn Chair USA that look very similar. They have a few different styles in multiple colors. I haven't used them yet but the seem extremely well made compared to the ones we used 45 years ago. I bought them in Canada through Wallmart.ca to avoid the import fees.

I see you're in Toronto '62. I'm pretty sure our chairs came from a small manufacturer in Saskatchewan. I'll try to confirm that in case anyone's interested.

Adding a couple shots of the old, canvas awning that came with the Shasta, sewn by the mother in the previous owner family, I'm told. It came with the original poles and even the rope/wood block things used to tighten things up. If anyone knows of an easier way to get these things up (a one-person way), let me know.
