I'm at the same point with my back end. The original paneling was GLUED at the bottom to the board on the inside at the back wall, between the benches. But my problems are different since I've attempted using 1/4" birch.
I've been watching your thread Newmex, and my back end at the bottom seems to be a little different. I'm almost to the point of tearing mine out and starting over.
