Hello happy campers, I am delighted to find this forum and hope to add positive information to it and to you. This month I have taken ownership of a Shasta 16SC that seems to be in pretty good shape. My primary concern at this time is the water heater. I removed both the water htr & the space heater and can bench test/run them outside of the camper. I was able to easily purchase a new Unitrol gas valve but found that the existing gas valve has an insert within the gas IN port that I cannot remove. The replacement gas valve does not have this insert and I am sure that to remove it will destroy it. This is NOT a flared fitting. The tubing itself is rolled back upon itself and resembles a collar and fits/seals with the insert within the valve. Visiting my local plumbing supply houses we find that any and all off the shelf male pipe threat to flare brass fitting do not fit. At this time I am not sure how to upload a photo to this thread but I will continue to try. I will also continue to dive deeper into this forum in the hopes that this has already been addressed. Water heater: need gas valve including thermocouple/pilot light. Existing gas valve is a Unitrol Bowen mod # G6A-2 ser# R77672 (206538) Can one of you fine folks guide me to success with this endeavor? MANY thanks and happy trails to you. For what it is worth I would love to purchase a new gas valve for the space heater even though it presently operates. Furnace: need gas valve including thermocouple/pilot light. Existing gas valve is a Unitrol DuoTherm Mod# 65210-2 ser# 7236015123-1

as a quick update to this hunt...
I have not been lucky in finding a solution to the gas pipe to gas valve connect although I have not spoken to Unitrol or Roberstshaw as of yet, I have a different idea.
Instead of spending $250.00 on a new gas valve and still have the old water heater, for about $500.00 I can purchase a new water heater complete. I will measure the space for the h20 htr and confirm that the new replacement will fit this void.
2 year warranty and all I have to do is bring 12vdc to the appliance.
thoughts?

Welcome!
Although I can't answer your question, I have bought used parts from Trailertrasher. I no longer have his email but somebody who has his contact info may chime in.

Hi Pinermel
Often the old water heater tanks have crusty sediment in the bottom or have cracks in them due to improper winterization. You may not even realize there is a hairline crack until you pressurize the tank. If you can fit a new one it might save you a lot of headache down the road.

I say go for new. Old water heaters tend to cause trouble...
Trailertrasher1@gmail.com for used parts.
