Many screws were zinc coated. Just a guess-some had better coating than others?

They also may have switched the type of screws used mid production run. Back then they didn't waste anything.

I pulled two fasteners and found that the "clean ones" are aluminum. Seems strange that they would use a mix of both. IMG_8831 by David Kelley, on Flickr

Somebody on the assembly line had too many beers the night before putting your camper together

It was Friday afternoon. They were running short of aluminum screws, but they had to get everything mounted. In the meantime, they sent Cletus to find some more screws while they "skip screwed" everything on with what they had. Cletus brought back zinc ones instead. "These will do", and they filled in the rest of the screws. Miller time!

You can do the magnet test for aluminum. Most should be zinc coated. Zinc is closest to aluminum on the galvanic chart.

Somebody on the assembly line had too many beers the night before putting your camper together Makes me wonder if folks bought trailers using the vin number like they used to buy cars back in the day. My dad told me stories.
