After spending some time on and off over the summer taking the Shasta apart, I made some serious progress last month. Frame sandblasted, primed and 2 coats of gloss black. Brakes were cleaned up, rewired and tested before the flooring install. New 20 gauge wheel wells. Street side complete and curb side on the table. Roof rolled up and hanging in the corner and siding hanging on the wall.
Street side has opening for Girard tankless water heater under the sink. All wall studs and are Douglas fir. The ceiling was lowered 3/8" to allow for 1 1/8" thick Douglas fir ceiling joists. All straight walls are 3/16" birch ply. Marmoleum tile on top of 3/4" sanded fir ply, holes filled with Bondo. New face frames in front of original cabinets that were used as templates. Old cabinets were soaked in mouse urine and not re-useable. I will refinish and re-use all of the old cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Upper cabinets.
Closet with fridge opening 3" taller to fit Norcold N305. The original 8000 BTU direct vent furnace will be reinstalled beside the entrance door. Kitchen base cabinet with 3/4" fir top. Rear street side view. Cabinets temporarily fitted. Stained with Minwax water based Old English Oak stain, 1 coat of amber shellac and 3 coats of clear. Goucho will be 2" higher than original so the porta potty will fit under the bed. Front curb side. Front street side. I ordered 200 feet of cabinet welt from VTS but it is much larger in diameter than the original so I will be returning it. I am still trying to find an appropriate vinyl fabric so I can make my own gimp with 1/8" cord. Once I get the gimp made and cabinets permanently installed I'll get started on the 1/8' birch ceiling.

Great job. I have 2 airflytes in line to build. I used the 1/4” hollow bead welt off eBay. Seemed to work fine.

Did you have sheet metal shop fab up the wheel wells..was 20g the original thickness. I POR’d mine and undercoated. There were no rust through, so I just re used them, but boy those new ones sure look nice!

I had a HVAC shop make them up but I bent the flanges and cut the side openings myself to keep the project simple for the shop. They are very strong and I can sit on them without them bending. The originals were paper thin and rusted through in many places.I'll probably undercoat them just to seal the seams.

Brilliant work! And good thinking about sealing up those wheel wells. Dirt and dust kicked up while towing will find its way through any microscopic voids and make a complete mess around the wheel wells.

I agree with PT! "Brilliant" in true English - as Ron Weasely would say. Nicely done and that's an understatement. For anyone new reading this thread, I recommend reading the back story thread on this trailer. It's rather unique. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/11227/guess-oldieCheers, Rod

I returned the larger diameter cabinet welt to VTS and made my first 50 feet of gimp. I cut up heavy gauge vinyl wallpaper that looks like a beige fabric and used contact cement to hold it in place around a 1/8" braided cord. The piping size is the same as the original with a slightly wider stapling flange.
The nice thing about using wallpaper is you can cut it any length needed. Used Lepage's water based contact cement. It spreads very thin and is easy to apply. Compared to the original gimp which was some kind of vinyl on a woven backing. The cord was twisted paper.

The home made gimp installed quite easily and it looks a lot like the original. It's starting to get cold here in Ontario and I have been using 2 small ceramic heaters in the garage to keep warm. My next project is going to be hooking up a 50,000 Btu propane heater so I can continue over the winter. Home made gimp installed on the kitchen cabinets. Around the tight radius on the closet. Around the 90 degree corner on the curb side bench.

Thanks Vikx. I really like how the Marmoleum tile worked out. I ordered a sheet of Wilsonart laminate in a light blue weave for the counter, the table and the sliding doors above the dinette. The original laminate was a greenish weave so it kind of mimics the original. Finding upholstery fabric is proving to be more challenging though as I would like to add more contrast and color with the upholstery. I really love what PT used in the Holiday House and I was thinking of something like that combined with a dark brown vinyl for the piping, cushion sides and the upper part of the back cushion so the vinyl portion looks the same as it was originally. My stove is brown so I was hoping to pick up that color again somewhere in the upholstery as well. Wilsonart Bellini Blue laminate with the Marmoleum floor tile samples.

I was thinking about making my own gimp as well and am now convinced to do it. We have a spool of he "carboard paper" cording used for piping on upholstery that I've hung onto. Also several rolls of carpet binding material (kind of looks like thin ratchet strap webbing) but my change direction to the wallpaper.

Hi Whitney. I cut the strips 1 1/8" wide. I first practiced with the contact cement on a few short strips in order to figure out the drying time and how to manipulate the strip tightly around the cord. I found that setting the cord in the middle of the strip while the contact cement was still a bit wet helped to keep the cord in place while I wrapped the wallpaper around it. Once I got the hang of it it went quite quickly.
I hope that makes sense.
Best regards,
Peter
