This is an original toilet in a 68 Shasta Starflyte. The bowl is no longer holding the water when flushed. I was able to get the tank itself to hold (it was slowly seeping and within 30 minutes or so it would be empty)
But I can't get the tank to hold. I tried cleaning and readjusting the rubber stopper thing (the part that seats at the bottom of the bowl then the foot lever is pressed and released) but it won't hold and after just a couple of minutes the bowl is empty. I tried 'rejuvenating' the rubber with silicone spray but didn't help
Can those rubber stoppers be replaced? I noticed I can slide it around if I reach down in there but can't get that sweet spot for it to seal (sweet spot and toilet should never be used in the same sentence) I was holding off on removing the toi.let to work on it, but that is the next step I guess

Very common in this toilet, all older ones, actually. They normally didn't hold water in the bowl after flushing; too much splashing. The tank on the back (if it's there) was designed to hold water but it's still not necessary for a toilet flushing into a black holding tank.
