Is there an alternative solution for installing fixed windows into aluminum frames, if a replacement original seal is out of production. On the 58 mobile scout here, there are 3 two pane awning windows, and 2 fixed windows that share the same type of triangular glazing seal. Has anyone encountered an obsolete or discontinued seal situation, and how was it successfully resolved. 0612220917a by johnchr777, on Flickr There are two seals shown in the picture. The one on the right is the original, the left was a possible alternative that will not work.

You may contact vintage trailer gaskets or vintage trailer supply. Im sure they could come up with a suggestion.

I'll give them both a call and report back. I did send in to trailer gaskets a list of all requirements, and received back a very nice selection of samples. The jalousie windows (hehr and several otherwise) are now assembled with seals that fit perfectly. But the glazing is not working out so well. What I'm suspecting is that the intricate designed seals are no longer in production, and if so, hmm, what to do. Fixed glass and glazing has been around a very long time, in rv's and otherwise. If all else fails, I have some ideas (Glaziers would use a form of sealant and fill to make it so). What would they have done in '58 to make this right.

Glazing Tape from Vintage Trailer Gaskets. It comes in a couple of different sizes. Not sure that we are talking about the same thing but it sounds like this is what you need. It's black or gray and comes in I believe two sizes.

I called VTG and talked to Robert. He said the seals that were use for the fixed awning and single pane windows have been out of production for a very long time. He offered several suggestions as a work around, all of which either use existing gaskets that are in production and altering them, or simply using butyl and some type of glazing. Since the original is out of production, the "some type of glazing" being something "anything" aesthetically pleasing and serving that function. The following is the existing geometry for the awning and single pane fixed windows on the 58 mobile scout. glazing fixed seal detailed drawing by johnchr777, on Flickr One suggestion was to use a #0114-as7, pressed in, and using the adhesive that it comes with to secure it. A sample is on the way, so we'll see how that works. One thing to make sure and take a look at is the VTG "vintage window library". I never really looked at it before, but am now. It has detailed drawings of gaskets and the channels they are designed for, as well as detailed instructions for their application. This is something I had lacked up to this point and it would have made sourcing a lot easier. Also, if in doubt, give Robert a call.

Here is the link to the Vintage Window Library www.vintagetrailergaskets.com/content/15-vintage-window-library Search for your window or even a close match and then start clicking on the links. You will see what Sawset is talking about. I am optimistic that you will find a fix. Cheers, Rod
