Hi Friends,
As you know, in this hobby, a lot of time is spent just researching for information on how to do something.
A lot...
I have found that Google Docs is becoming a tremendous aide in learning techniques and garnering information about how to do a restoration. You need a Gmail email address.
The hobby is all about planning as you already know. I search and find the info on the forum I need to get me started. Then I copy and paste the most helpful posts into a Google doc and title it the part of the trailer I will be restoring. I also include the thread link.
The result is a fairly easy access to info. I just search it up when I need it. I don’t have to think, “Now where did I read that?”.
I used to do the same thing in WORD on my laptop, but all that was lost about two years ago, when my hard drive was wiped in a miscommunication with an IT tech at work. Stuff happens. So, the Google Doc offers some back up.
You can also use Google Docs for creating drafts of posts to the forum especially when adding a lot of pictures. I compose in Google docs and then edit my photo links there before posting. That way an errant key stroke or a cat walking across your keyboard doesn't delete what you spent 20 minutes creating.
Cheers,
Rod

Great tip Rod -
I've had a few of those errant keystrokes over the years and they have led to me saying some very naughty things when I realized what I'd done! It's nice to be able to get to your Google doc with multiple devices since it's saved in the cloud. You can update things on a laptop at night and then get to it with the tablet/phone out in the garage the next day.

I use Google Docs all the time.
QUESTION: I have written several papers on vintage trailer repair with photos. However, I've yet to find a place to display them online that will keep them intact and theft free. Does anyone have a solution? I want to share them for free, yet don't think others downloading them is a good idea...
Blurbs:
Vintage Trailer Quirks-several brands that tend to have a specific problem
Installing a Fantastic Fan
Installing a Vintage style electrical inlet
Installing a lighted door handle-includes how to install the socket and placing the handle.

I don't think there's a way to prevent online content from being copied. Even if there were, a person could just take a screenshot or even a photo and reproduce the information. I do have some apps that prevent screenshots as a policy, but that seems like a lot of work to publish a few articles.

I was reading up on this yesterday. It's almost impossible to keep the photos from being "taken", but you can add a watermark to the photo.
I have a link on my computer that I can post later.

All of my photos have been stolen. I've had people say they were me and ask for money. Even the BLM (land management not the terrorist group) stole a photo of mine and put it in their California Campground Brochure. Kinda proud of that one though. You can not keep people from breaking the laws on the internet. It's the most corrupt medium on the planet.

I love Google Docs. Wrote two books on it. Make docs with lots of photos and captions. Easy to use. Always there in the cloud
