Hi everyone,
I've been puttering along on my early 60s Robin Hood Cadet Coach... and I can't seem to find answers on screens (mine didn't come with any)
I see the vertical top and bottom have channels about 1/4 inch wide and then smaller channels on the horizontals...
Is the screen material fastened to these channels using different sized splines? Or do you fabricate aluminum frames to size?
Thanks in advance!
Parker

You can bend aluminum screen around and into the grooves but it is very sharp when you cut it. Spline will work in the grooves as well but mine have never had splines.

My 1600 series has removable screens, so assuming yours are missing. They should slide into the upper channel and settle into the lower channel. 2 thicknesses of screen frame commonly available at home centers. It's the thinner size. Can't recall the exact dimension.

By the way, the screens depend on the age of Hehr window. Older ones (40s-early 60s) used the screen grooves and opened with a notched handle. The later Hehrs were often Jalousies and had the slip up and in screens.

Thanks everyone! It appears I have the grooves for the removable screens. I need to source aluminum frame in Western Canada... all I find is powder coated white Frame kits.
Thanks again for the help!

Every major hardware chain in the States sells mill finish frames. Plenty of online sources too, if that's an option. Should be the 5/16" size. If you want the vintage look, get the kits that allow for mitered corners. Never liked those plastic squares. FYI, the light or medium gray screen material looks the best.
