I have a 1976 Scotty. The roof is in 3 pieces. Looks like it had hail damage. I want to replace it but can't find a supplier. I've contacted metal fabricators, sent them pictures and never hear back. Out of state companies charge a ginormous amount for shipping. What other resources could I check?

Try local truck tanker repair places. I got mine from 'Polar', a national tanker repair. Aluminum comes on a 48" wide roll, they'll cut it to any length and they can do the pittsburg seam. I'm in small town Ohio and they were local here.

Search for trucking supply places serving semi tractor trailers (I live in Wisconsin). They sell 40 mil aluminum by the foot in rolls 108 inches wide. Check out my recent post here called "Working with heavy aluminum." I did my whole trailer for $1,500 including $400 for a sheet metal shop to fabricate all the pieces. They squared up and cut all pieces to size and put brake bends in all but the roof piece. It was not too bad to work with. The finish gets a little scratched up, but it is fixable.

Truck body repair might get better results for an internet search. I found a place about 20 minutes from work that way. I had started searching for roof coil and the closest I found that way was a 6 hour one way drive. A repair shop might be able to do some brake work for you, I'm going 1 piece from tongue to bumper, no breaks.

Hard to bend for the fold over and it will be deeply gouged in places from the way the transport the coils with a fork lift shoved into the middle of the coil. I had to return the metal I bought. It was really messed up so I went back to using a roof system made by Steve Loomis at Hemet Valley.

My GF paid just over $3000 for an entire brake lined roof, 4' run auto mold front and rears at 83 inches wide, and two 16 foot uppers (Pittsburgh lock) and lowers (automold) shipped from Hemet Valley to Illinois. Two large boxes, shipped freight. I would definitely get a quote from them.

After months of searching, I found an aluminum supplier 45 miles from my home. American Sheet Metal in Amarillo, Texas. Ordered it and had it in a week. $160 for a 4 x 12 sheet. Bought two and will have to fabricate it together. ASM wanted $600 in labor to join the two pieces. Any suggestions? Soldering, welding?

Just ship lap it with putty tape as your seal between sheets. You must make sure that a rafter ends up on a seam so you have something to screw the seam to. Also make sure you lap the proper pieces over the others. Rain follows down hill due to gravity... Going down slope lap the upper sheet over the lower. Screws are #6 zinc phillips heads. Put them about every 2 to 3 inches apart. 2.5 if you can't make up your mind. An overlap of 1 to 1.5 inches will suffice.

Hemet Valley RV, Calif, Interstate RV Metal, Oregon, Atomic Camper Parts, Ga. So do the above listed companies all sell patterned material similar to Hemet or just flat roll stock?
