Nearly 4 years ago we purchased this 1968 Shasta Lowflyte with intentions to restore. Our family of 3 had outgrown our pop up camper and we were looking for something slightly larger. This Lowflyte sat just a block from our house, I had seen it many times, when the house it was sitting next to came up for sale I asked the owner if they were interested in selling, we towed it home that night. Well life got in the way and the trailer sat in our barn until last week, my 6 year old and I were cruising Route 66 when she asked, “Dad when are we going to use the old camper?” Seemed as good a reason as any to finally drag it out of the barn and have a look. The interior was gutted by the pervious owner, they had plans to turn it into a traveling boutique of sorts, and some work had been undertaken trying to stabilize the structure from the inside. That work consisted of pounds of deck screws and several hundred linear feet of deck balusters screwed up everywhere. Being a cabinet maker by trade I’m not afraid of a project and just have a supply of poplar ready for the rebuild. So I spent the greater part of last week taking all the botched work out, and removing the exterior skins, shout-out to Mobiltec’s YouTube for the great how-to info! The first challenge was getting it into my shop, turns out my overhead door is only 6’9”, so some creativity was needed to get it through the door! Had to remove some trim, let the air out of the tires, and winch it the last bit, but it’s in and work is underway!
Started the rebuild on the door side, really enjoying the work so far. The work continues until next time!

Nice Mike, You have a marriage made in heaven. You and the trailer are a fine mix. This trailer got lucky. I guess you did too. Say, what are you using for the trailer dolly in this picture? Looking forward to you watching your journey. Rod

Say, what are you using for the trailer dolly in this picture? That’s my Costco folding hand truck that I mounted a spare trailer ball onto… poor mans trailer dolly!

Pulled the loflyte out of the garage this evening to give the garage and trailer a good cleaning after a rather dirty week of deconstruction and reconstruction. With all the rot on the curb side of this trailer I’m shocked it hadn’t collapsed! While working on the side I discovered that the previous owner had also overlayed the original floor with 3/4” particle board, going to remove that this week and chances are the original floor will be rotted… who knows what else I’ll fund! But I guess that is part of the adventure.

Hmm, 3/4” plywood plus 1/4” for the added flooring gives you an extra inch of headroom!

” who knows what else I’ll fund!” I don’t know if you meant to type that or if it was the perfect auto correct
