I get it and when it starts to pass like it did for me, you may find someone to drive 1500 miles to buy one of the shastas?

My hubby did a freehand template for the frame and for the extra several inches of skin. There’s a pretty good picture in the recent “Meet Hamlet” thread.

I was going to collect parts and do a one off until I was blessed with 2 more builds. Saw on FB where a guy in Louisville did it to a '72 Compact. I said hmmmm. Wanted to use the original skins (why? I don't know, I'm just weird that way) I had one wall frame rebuild to original already when I decided to do it. Laid the wall on my "table" (barrels), attached the skin, covered it with kraft paper, used fish rods (not fishing poles) to get my curve, traced it onto the paper, and used the image of a '63 Compact to go by. Here's an example: Had to re-do the back curve so the wings would mount right. Never have been accused of having the brightest ideas... Here's the link to the rest of the 67 Shasta pics if you're interested: 67 Shasta Compact JourneyI can't find my current pictures with the shellac'd birch, but heavens, you all know what that looks like by now! I knew exactly what I wanted and flipped through two books of color chips and when I saw it, imthink I said, “Eureka!” It has just a tinge of green, but it still goes well with most color pallettes.

Since first generation compacts are so hard to find maybe I will just have to make my own from a second generation.
I will have to start keeping my eyes open for one that has a good set of metal, windows and frame and some of he guts inside that I can reuse.
But I just got this feeling that the moment I buy one and get half way into it one of those a real one will come along.
