The outer portion has a pipe that goes over the furnace exhaust, it is usually rusted in place. Sometimes PB Blaster catalyst will help but not always.
On my last one, I tied a strap around the flange and used a comealong to ratchet it off and out of the trailer. (tied to a post in the lean to)

It didn't come out easily. I used PB and a rubber hammer as well. Slow and easy on the ratchet action.
Here is an example of a patched heater outlet. The furnace was replaced with a Wave 3 heater.

Thanks Vikx. I wasn't planning to replace the furnace at this point as it works. Can the vent be put back in afterward and still run it safely or is it a case that once I pull it, I have to replace?
Thanks

I think you could clean the tubes very well to fit them back together. These can be a real bear... try not to bend things too much. It helps a lot to remove whatever is above the furnace for access. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
