I am working on removing this and replacing with a modern water heater - I think it will be my next step, along with taking off curbside skin and replacing rotted wood. (Front end skin and panels already removed) I am wondering if anyone has plumbing schematics for updating a 65 Shasta? The more I look at it, the more it seems like I should just redo it all. www.flickr.com/photos/193415707@N03/51337270272/in/dateposted-public/

I have some questions for you: are the old water lines copper? If so, it would be good to replace it all with PEX. Copper lines tend to split in the oddest places; sometimes you can't even see the split.
Measure the opening of the old water heater carefully because some of the new ones won't fit the space. You might have to re-frame and retro fit a newer heater. Some are going with on demand heaters as well. Do some research before you decide on a type of water heater.

Thanks. I have been looking online for awhile and there are so many to pick from it is pretty hard to know what to go with. I was thinking tankless but I read that it loses pressure easily while boondocking. All the tubing is cut to the water tank, it honestly looked like rubber garden hose. But there may be some copper to the water heater. I have a short video clip and it appears all the tubing is rigid to the water heater. I looked at Shasta la vista’s blog and I had drawn up something similar to what she has, but I didn’t see her water heater on the blog. I don’t know what I am doing, but I am going slow and carefully removing and measuring - so hopefully I will learn as I go. I appreciate your advice and experience!

I have some pix that may help you but can't post them all here. PM me for my email address.
Here is the tank, pump, water inlet, tee to trailer system:

The open tee goes to the sink cold water. The brass valve is for winterizing. There is a check valve to prevent the water flowing "out" the water inlet. The pump has a built in check valve preventing back flow into the tank.
