I found this place in Asheville with odd lots of "rare" wood. They had this in a pile about 200 sheets high:
Has anybody ever heard of Melapi? It seems a little redder (not a great photo) than birch but it had a nice grain?
They also had a good price on 1/2" birch possibly for the floor.
Thoughts?
1/8" Birch is impossible to find in NC.

Melapi is basically the Luan you find at a big box store. It is a type of mahogany and will likely stain up redder than you are used to, but maybe that's not a problem for someone who does so much color testing. Have you used 1/2" ply for the floor before? We used 3/4 but maybe was overkill? My only concern with loss leader "sanded birch" was my experience trying out the Home Depot endcap birch. 0 stars, would not recommend. 1965fieldandstream.blogspot.com/2015/12/rebuilding-floor.html

I want 3/4" flooring but the main wardrobe will need adjusting since the original flooring was 1/2".

Nccamper, try calling Catawba Hardwoods in NC. They had 1/8" birch last time I talked to them. They also have ash.

O'well, the search goes on. Really, that's weird. I got 15 sheets from the Hickory location less than a year ago. He said they had 3000 sheets because they brought it in for a cabinet maker and the guy changed his mind.

Toledo Plywood sells 1/8x4x8 birch for $23.95 and has over 50 sheets in stock. It’s a mom and pop store. I used it in my frame up 1961 Shasta restoration.
