There's a 1959 Shasta available near me for sale on Facebook. The seller doesn't have title or registration and I live in California. For what it's worth, there is a California license plate and what I think is VIN info Ser#D5S 16894 PA 1453. Having recently read some of the nightmare scenarios shared on this page, I'm afraid.
Can anyone help with the VIN # or part of it? I can't figure where 1959 comes from. My initial thought is to check it out this weekend and give a low ball offer. If I lose, I lose. However, my offer if accepted, may offset future expenses incurred.
Then of course will be the complete tear down and rebuild. Fun. Thoughts? Help? Thanks
If you haven’t been inside a Deluxe, you might want to take a day trip even if it’s just to look at it. It’s a LOT of trailer, almost twice the size of the Compact. The bathroom is a nice addition, especially f you either boondock or use campgrounds without facilities. If you’re interested, You do have the vin, maybe the DMV can do a title search. If you go, take pictures and let us know what you found!
mobiltec is the authority and he recommends never buying an untitled trailer in CA. I love that camper but wouldn't touch it for free. Just doing our PTI registration was the most painful government interaction in my life.
There's a difference between no title and lost title. Some sellers are the legal owners and are too lazy or don't know how to replace a lost title, so they may advertise as "no title". If the seller is the legal owner, or is granted a POA, then it should be almost painless. The opposite is true if they aren't the legal owners. Clarify this with the seller before going any further.
