Trying to replace the old tires on the 63’ Shasta Airflyte. Currently sitting on 7.00-15 6ply Thorobred by Dayton. I have searched the forum and read a lot, but I’m almost more confused then when I started lol. Google searches don't return all that much, and tire shops tell me to change them out entirely.
I have found: 1) Deestone D902 7.00/R15 Load range D/2040 lb/ Bias ply/ 75mph (L rated) 2) Kenda K391M-7.00-15 LT Load range E/2430 @ 70psi/ 75mph/Bias 10 ply
* I've seen a few others, and would love white walls but $450-500 for 2 there's hurts my brain lol.
I've read so many conflicting things, and just want a good tire replacement. I'm not sure if it's best to change them out rim and all, or what is best at this point.
Bias vs radial / ST vs LT/ how many ply (6 now)
Please help!

Hi Hookset,
You should be able to use the original wheels with new tires. Bias ply are narrower but don't last as long. Radial TRAILER tires usually work well for our little trailers.
The main concern is that the tires fit the wheel wells with proper clearance. The original wheels have a different offset than modern and they fit the Airflytes well. One of my 57 Shasta 1500s ran 205/75R/15 and they fit well. The other 1500 had brakes, which caused a very tight fit.
If your local tire company will work with you, they might be able to try different tires to determine what will be the best fit. My tire guy is a hot rod guru and has fit every one of my trailers. Good luck.

I replaced my 7.00x15 bias ply with 205 90 R15 Power King from Cooper Tires. They are E load and almost identical in height and width. They rode really well last year and are radial tires. I have a 1958 deluxe with original 15 inch rims. I did some brake work and changing the tires were no problem with the same height as original ones. Good luck.

I actually left a message with my tire guy today, but was trying to do my diligence as well.

On the National Serro Scotty Website, they have a tutorial on how to remove the tires on a Serro Scotty. The principal can be applied to a canned ham as well. Might offer a bit more clearance when removing I tire. Every little bit helps.

I did end up having “my tire specialist” come down and take one with him. He is going to try some different radial options out for me. Fingers crossed lol
