I'm trying to decide between the checkerboard pattern or a solid color. Thoughts?

Flooring - in the images, VCT tiles are on the left and countertop laminate is on the right

Checkers! You’ll find the floor looks cleaner than having a solid color, where anything not that color will stand out like a sore thumb.

I like the checked floor tiles, especially for the clean thing. You obviously have some concern about too many patterns, not an invalid concern when there is still upholstery and curtains to think about. You might want to consider putting texture, rather than pattern, into the curtains, and something subtle in upholstery to avoid making a small space look busy. You’ll figure it out and it will be fabulous!'

I'm thinking of these patterns as well. They would not be as "busy" and the grays in the laminate look really nice with aluminum trim. My only concern would be if the browns would look good with the amber birch interior.

Love the laminate. And you could do the amber birch if you chose fabrics that pulled in both colors. Tnings don’t have to match, just blend. Hamlet is blue and off white outside. The floor is darkish red and off white Marmoleum with kind of a golden yellow basket weave laminate, we went with red and white mattress ticking for curtains and stuff bags for our bed pillows. The fabric for he cushions is a Route 66 retro heavy cotton tapestry that pulls in all the colors. It’s not overwhelming at all, just kind of classic. We bought our fabric online. You can get samples sent so you can have a good idea of what the end product will be.
After all the work getting all the invisible structural things taken care of, it’s so much fun to do the aesthetics. Good luck!

Ooh, that's gorgeous. Marmoleum is a bit different to work with than VCT, it's lighter weight and more flexible, which made it easier for my hubby to do an inlay as a little decoration. There are a couple other true linoleum products out there. Marmoleum is still made by a European company, I think, and the tiles were metric and just a little larger than 12 inches. It has held up beautifully over the past decade of pretty heavy use. This pattern (it looks like sheet rather than tile, although most patterns come in both) would hide dirt beautifully and look gorgeous with the tone of the birch paneling.

I’m pretty sure it comes both in sheet and tiles,

That one is a sheet - I really like it and I'm looking at purchase options. Also, on another note, I finally found a source for 1/8" bending birch plywood in S Florida (and it's "only" an hour away). I'm actually pretty excited about that because I made A LOT of calls, and was beginning to think I wasn't going to find any.

The Marmoleum won’t cost any more, you’ll be supporting a local business, but the best thing is something that big box stores just can’t offer: service. They can give you tips on installing, even if you have to do it outside in the cold. If you decide to get a small piece (remnant or single contrasting tile) and do an inlay, they can guide you through that as well. HD and Lowe’s can’t do that.
