Like plenty of other parts of the Holiday House the folks over at Harry and David liked to do things differently. I've gone through a bunch of door related threads and have seen nothing like what I got here...
Does anyone know if you can still get this type of flexible aluminum channel below that holds the rubber seal at the very edge?
The section the pointer is touching is mangled and missing the rubber insert. The section on the other side of the lock still has the rubber. This is thin aluminum that flexes as the door opens and closes to push the rubber against the door frame.
Along with finding this material, or creating a work-around, I'll need to get the heavy aluminum door frame welded back together at the corners.
Both the interior (with the really bad laminate) and exterior aluminum skin of the door are held to the edges by a thick spline similar to what is used for window screens. The original door skin is in pretty good shape so will probably try to reuse it. I imagine I could bend new skin to work with the spline... maybe it's easier than I'm thinking at first sight.
