flic.kr/p/2mPg1BnDoing this from my phone and wondering if the link will work. If you zoom in the entire outside edge of the wall is a series of laminations. The wall edges are full 1.5 inch thick x 1.5 inch tall with .75 inch thick curbing 1.5 inch tall. The roof framing rests on the other .75 inch of wall. I am thinking of just rebuilding the walls with solid lumber then laminate the curbing giving the roof framing the full 1.5 inch to rest on. flic.kr/p/2mPpKwC The reason for the laminated radius framing is because solid wood splits. You have to cut your radius pieces from such large stock that it tends to split later.

Progress: Roof removed. flic.kr/p/2n1TYhPSome hardware clean up. Soaked everything in a warm crockpot overnight then wire brushed and sanded. flic.kr/p/2n1i4xEGoing to be building all new walls and replacing all panels. Once the walls are built and confirmed matches for existing I will proceed to remove the cabinets for re-finishing and replacing the floor. That way I will have all fresh lumber to attach the walls. Also I will be able to clean and paint the frame, which is astonishingly straight and level! Bonus!

What rot?
On the wet east coast, if you can make out the original shape, it's called "Water Stains".

We love that color combo too! Going to put it right back the way it was. Eventually! Haha.

Progress, drawings made and the new walls framed out. Just need to do the laminations. flic.kr/p/2n6trrdflic.kr/p/2n6NZWRflic.kr/p/2n6P1ryflic.kr/p/2n6NvQJIs there any benefit to sealing/painting the frame to protect against rot? Also looking ahead to restoring the cabinets. Can the original cracked shellac finish be sanded and re-coated to restore it? Or better to reskin with 1/8 birch ?

You are moving right along; looks good.
If the plywood is in good condition, you should be able to sand and refinish. If it is rippled, cracked or water stained, probably not.

So delaminating seams aren’t repairable? I was hoping to use a needle to inject glue then clamp.

So delaminating seams aren’t repairable? I was hoping to use a needle to inject glue then clamp. I have done used a needle to inject glue for delamination and as long as it's not falling apart it can work OK. If it's all black then you will want to use Wood Bleach (ocsillic acid) on it. As far as painting the framing is concerned.... NO.... You want the wood to breath because you will be penetrating it with staples, screws and nails and water will wick into those spots over time. If the wood is painted the water will stay in there for a long time and cause rot. Better to just build your trailer so it doesn't leak. For refinishing your shellacked paneling you should use a paint scraper to remove as much as you can. Then easy light sanding will get the rest. You don't want to go through the veneer. The scrapers work great and save you a LOT of time and sand paper. Takes a few minutes to develop the right way to hold it. There are two sets of blades on them. One is FINE and one is COARSE. Look closely at the blades to determine which you are using.

Delamination is different than cracked. If it's a slight lifting, easy enough to glue. To me, "cracked" is a split with separation between the two sections.

You guys are awesome! There isn’t cracking just some delaminating near seams and on ends. And I will go after the finish with scrapers first then a light sanding to prep for a new finish. This is of course for the original cabinets as all the paneling is trash.

So here we go! Stripped down to the bare frame. Ears are ringing after spending a couple hours with a grinder and sander. I know it’ll be worth it though. flic.kr/p/2no468Jflic.kr/p/2nojr7vNext up: wipe it all down and prime it. Photos to follow
