That looks good Larry, thanks for posting the pictures. Interesting, is that one continuous piece rolled from front to back? Pictures so help me get on the same page as all of you veterans. What's a piece like that sell for? I am curious..

This roof material is made from 4 separate pieces of 4 foot wide aluminum locked together with waterproof seam locks. Mine is 16 feet long front to rear. When ordering Steve will ask you for a measurement from one lock to another. It's easiest to use a soft tape measure when measuring. Mine is a 50 foot wind up tape measure. You will see how I unroll the metal over the camper in the video.
The width from side to side is ordered 4 inches wider than the outside of the trailer so you must cut the edges down to half inch over for the fold over.
The videos will be out within a couple days after I finish the install. As soon as I finish the Westerner I will move on to the Shasta. I was going to do them side by side at the same time but now that I had to spend two weeks with the flu I need to get moving on the Westerner and stay on it so I can get it out of here.

The Beat Goes On.... (going to pull a SOUP here)
I didn't get to work on the roof yesterday because I was not feeling real good. Having just got over the flu I figured I better not push it. Today I felt much better and got about a half day in. All the video and explaining takes a lot of time so I didn't get as far as I would have liked. Without the filming I could have finished it today.
One of my viewers suggested that I try using 3 in 1 oil on the router bit and give routing metal another shot. This time I used the smaller Two Fluted Bit and oiled it just like he said and IT WORKED GREAT! It made cutting the window out a breeze. So I learned something new yet again from one of my viewers. Love it!
Just got over the top of the front radius on both sides and it's looking great. No buckling that I can see and the skin is nice and tight. The owner should be very happy with his new roof.

Uhhh....Pull a soup!?!?? What the heck is that supposed to mean?! LOL Hey Larry, I was wondering about the 3 straps you use to hold the new roof skin down to prevent buckling. What material did you use for the 3 straps you have stretched over the roof to prevent buckling? What are they made from? How did you get them to stretch tight when installing them? You now got me thinking of using plastic skid banding material and using the stretcher used in shipping materials kit. Thanks again, soup

Those aviation tin snips are called 'Dutchman's' by a lot of tradespeople, as the original manufacturer is a company called Klenks. I've had a set of all three for about thirty years. Truly indispensable!

Thanks again, soup Soup I copied your act by putting a YT video of a song up at the beginning of the post. "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher. The song popped into my head when I started the post. I didn't want you to think I was stealing your act. LOL...
The bands are half inch Parachute Bridle. I have a ton of it around here because of the sport I'm in. The stuff stretches like climbing rope and it worked great for this application. I just pulled on it and wrapped and tied it around the frame. You can see the 4x4 block I put in the middle to tighten it up even more. Just using what I have is all. I like your idea for the plastic skid banding material if you have the stretcher for it and can get the material.
Thanks for the information on the snips Txoil. These are all I use for snip cutting metal. I also use a razor knife for cutting metal skin in some cases. I used the router to cut out the window. One of my viewers or perhaps someone here mentioned that I should try using oil on the bit so I did and it worked GREAT! I'm back to routing my metal again now. I will show that in the videos.

Finished getting the roof on today and it was a total success. I have lots of boring video that shows everything including how to deal with buckling. I had no problems dealing with this roof and I thank everyone who gave me advice before I did it. As you know I admitted that I screwed one up in the past and was a little apprehensive about this one. Now I have the Shasta roof to do in the near future and it should be a breeze.

Looking good, another fine job by mobiltec. Now is the owner going to take it home and finish it?

Yes he will. I still have to put the door back on, the windows back in and the J Rail on. Also need to put a new interior panel, framing and the old metal back on the rear as well. Then he comes and get's it. It's all down hill from here now.

For those of you who have been waiting for it, the first of the New Roof Install Series is up on my website. I will be putting up the following parts of the install at the rate of about one part every couple of days. The job went smooth and without a hitch and I hope the videos help those of you who are dreading the replacement of your roof. It's actually much easier than you think as long as you take your time and think it all out.

This is great information, thanks so much Larry!
Got a question for you: will there be supports at the rear roof seam to the side of the window? I was wondering if you would be stapling that across until you get to the window?

Yes I put two pieces of framing in there to staple the S lock into from the sides of the window to the edgeboard. There is only going to be one seam in the front because it's getting new metal now. The rear will get new metal before it get's painted but will have to wait for a bit for the owners to restock the bank account LOL. So I'll slip a couple of small pieces in there for the time being.
