Not sure what area to post this in so feel free moderator to move it if need be. I'm looking for custom bumper ideas for my 1957 Pathfinder. Would like to hear from people who have built their own bumper and would like to see pictures. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Tom. I would like to try and fabricate one using a chrome truck bumper? or something similar rather than just the square tubing but I'll have to keep all options open.

Someone posted a thread recently about a 1948 Boles. In it you can see a welded or bolted a vintage truck bumper on the back. Search 1948 Boles.

Hi, Not sure if this will help. This is from a 1963 Shasta 1500. I don’t know if the bumper was stock or added by some PO. You can see the ends of the bumper made out of C channel was mitered. The mounts are upside down C – channel welded to the frame. Rod

I'm thinking that any truck bumper might be too short without adding a section in the middle of it but I need to find some vintage truck bumper width specs somehow.

Did most campers of the 50's era even come with bumpers from the factory?

Most campers from the 50s did NOT have bumpers. That's how they got the "canned ham" name; just like a can of ham. I like them without; much cleaner look.

1962 Forester bumper.
1963 Shasta had the solid c Channel as connectors to the frame instead of the round tube.
Same as 1959 Shasta Airflyte

I'd be tempted to look at some of the hot rod or street rod websites for some reproduction bumpers for say a 1940 Ford or something in that era.

eBay is probably your best bet for vintage bumpers. I used to get J.C. Whitney catalogues for my hard to find old stuff but their current online source is tough to navigate and they seem to be more interested in newer vehicles.
