Hello,
I am tearing apart my '59 Siesta and found the 2 windows in the front leaked and caused a lot of water damage. I noticed the original windows were built right into the walls directly, unlike the other windows that were built with the metal frames as 1 self contained unit.
These windows were not self contained units, they were just 1 piece of glass built right into the walls, so they have no metal frame. Is this normal?
Would it be a bad idea too to it the same way and just replace the glass pieces without using a self contained window? I think it would be easier, but not sure how well it will stay sealed over the years.
Thank you.

Ah, you've discovered the infamous Shasta dinette window design... Worthless and they WILL leak. I've gotten a good seal but it won't last: leaks waiting to happen.
We are all in a quandary about what to do. Yes, they do seal and look cool/original (important in a Shasta) Unfortunately, the Shasta body doesn't allow room for much else. Perhaps the Siesta does?
I'm sure others will chime in...
