Two toned natural wood interior??

I am doing this for my sons camper now. I am staining the walls with a white wash stain that I needed to add a few drops of grey stain into so the grain will pop and then he wanted the cabinet doors to be a darker grey stain.

I think it will look ok but some people will not like it but it doesn't really matter what other like or don't like it is what he and his wife want and they are going to live with it. So I say do some samples and see how it looks and if it looks ok to you then go for it.

My 58 Airflyte had clear shellac on ash boards and it looked nice. But I am not sure about how amber and clear will look until I see some examples. Also remember that amber will get richer each coat you put on so that will also make some difference.

Have fun and make it the way you want if you plan to keep it. If you want to sell it then keeping it all one color tends to be the better option.

What ever you do, don't paint it. But again that is my feeling and on a vintage camper the wood grain to me is why I buy it. 

Thanks for all your input!! I'll post up pics for sure once I have all the samples put together. I tinkered around with stains, clear and amber shellacs a bit today. The four coats of amber looked OK with the clear, still a bit more orange than I'd like but and could live with it if I had to. Stains under, over, and mixed in didn't work at all. I decided to order some garnet shellac flakes and mix up my own shellac in a darker shade to see how that works. Hopefully the tones will accent each other and pop like I'm looking for, but the flakes wont be here till next week soooooo now I wait........

This is not the first time this conversation has come up. If you do a search on VTT for the words, "two tone", you will find some threads on this very subject. Once the search is completed and you see the thread titles, look at the one called "Two Tone" or "Birch walls and painted cabinets". Both are near the top of the list within the top 10. There may be other valuable threads relevant to your needs.

Hey everyone! Been kind of slow going with winter here. Apparently shellac doesn't really like being applied in cold weather so I ended up turning my dining room into a temporary shellacking station, but I finally have some pics of what the two toned interior looks like for those who are interested.
