I buy 1" when possible.
I like to roll it on following the edge, press it down and pull the backing. On some areas I use 2 layers.

I've never rolled putty. Doesn't make sense to make it narrower. I, too, fill any dips or gaps with a small double layer of putty.

Hey Rod, From info on the internet, Larry and other owners these Westerners were built on the fly by a half dozen guys in the backyard of a makeshift warehouse in CA. They must have been all about do it fast, do it cheap, crank them out. They may have been built a little better than the Shasta ( my only other reno to compare to) but not by much. I say that cuz I found short cuts, lack of joinery and attachments and water proofing on my Westerner just as I did on the Shasta. When I took them apart and put them back together I went or will go all in on beefing up framing, attachments, and waterproofing though putty tape, also some Trempro and gutter seal here and there. Anyway, use the putty tape generously off the roll as intended and these old Westerners will certainly appreciate it. Kerry
