Hi Friends,
If you cover the floor with Luan paneling,
Do you work around the base of the cabinets and ignore adding the Luan paneling under the bed if the bed is permanent and not a gaucho?
Is there any problem at the threshold to consider?
What about if the tiles are curling at the corners? Would you still cover with Luan?
Thanks,
Rod

I'm not seeing any curling tiles? The best way to prepare a floor is to remove the old flooring. The glue can stay in place with no danger of removal dust.
Luan should be laid on the whole floor if possible. It's easy to remove the bed "front" in many trailers to facilitate this. You can seam at the cabinets if they are in place. Edge trim after flooring is laid will keep the cut edges flat.
Threshold trim will cover the transition.

I too didn't see curled tiles in Kyla's Kenskil, but I wanted to bring up the topic anyway for anyone else following this thread without experience.
Raise your hand if you have ever seen a vintage trailer with curled floor tiles, LOL. I just thought it would be a relevant question considering we were discussing covering a floor with Luan. Just more details for another option at dealing with re-tiling the floor.

Out of respect for Lyla's restoration thread, I moved these post to General repair.

Do you work around the base of the cabinets and ignore adding the Luan paneling under the bed if the bed is permanent and not a gaucho? If the floor is solid I work around the cabinets. I always replace the gaucho with a permanent bed after tiling.
Is there any problem at the threshold to consider? It's slightly higher but never a problem.
What about if the tiles are curling at the corners? Would you still cover with Luan? Years after doing my first luan layer I've had no curling.
I agree with vikx, the best way to prepare a floor is to remove the old flooring. But the luan layer done properly lets us avoid asbestos and gives you a very smooth surface to work with.
