What about putting some sort of masking on the raised parts then paint? It would be a pain. Or maybe lightly sand the raised areas after paint?

Double sided tape the insignia to a flat piece of 1x6, spray paint the insignia, then gently rub it against another piece of 1x6 with 400 grit sand paper glued to it, once paint has dried and cured?

What I need is actual experienced advice. I forgot the gentleman's name who did the other Mainline on here and remember it got stolen and then a couple years later it was returned??? I think he was able to restore his. I gave him one of them as a matter of fact. I'd like to hear from him but forgot his name on here.

It is painted similiar to silk screening. You lay the paint on and then with a small rubber squegee wipe off the paint leaving the paint in the non - raised areas. First you need to use double sided tape to tape it to flat surface.

I agree it was probably silkscreened originally. You could probably use any of the methods here, paint and sand, paint and squeegee, but I'd probably use a thin brush, thick paint and a toothpick to get it into all the cracks. A relaxing evening of crafting akin to me cutting vinyl decals with an xacto instead of doing it the correct or easy way.

Believe it or don't. Years ago I was the layout artist and did the camera work for local company that did stencils, nameplates, trophies etc. We did lots of manufactures name and I.D. tags. Some complete with sequential numbering etc. All nameplates like these are done in sheets with multiple tags per sheet of stock. After the acid bath and rinse, they are spray painted entirely then lightly BLOCK sanded with fine wet or dry type paper. The ones that are square or rectangular are then sheared apart on a stomp shear. Round or oval get stamped out with a set of blanking dies. Then mounting holes get punched in with a punch and die. I hated having to sit and punch mounting holes on runs of several hundred plates, but it paid the bills at the time!

Hi Friends,
It might be worth an email to contact Rex Conway. He has done recasts of emblems before, but the ones I have seen are in plastic. I don't know if he still does these or if he does them in another medium besides plastic.
Another person who might do it is Lanny Web of Custom Vintage Trailer Parts, but he still isn't working last I checked.
I will email you Larry with his Rex Conway's email address.
The other option is to have the badges redone as a sticker. Not original, but visually, it might work? There is an ebay seller that makes vintage trailer decals that goes by jimenginedecals. There are some others as well on ebay.

I don't think plastic or stickers on a restored 40s Mainline would be appropriate. The emblems are in excellent condition. I say paint and then clean the letters.

Im going to try that out using an exacto knife to scrape the letters with. I saw on another board somewhere that it is time consuming but works good. I'll try it on the faded one first and if I like it enough I'll do the other one. If I'm not all that happy it will go in the rear and the best of the two will go in front.

Wish I had it now LOL... Did you restore your emblems?
