What is the power outlet thing called on the outside of the trailer? It's a 3 prong male end, in which you would plug up to a power source to power up the trailer? I have a photo, but don't know how to load it. I need to replace this part, but don't know what to call it when I'm searching! Any help is appreciated (especially if someone has an extra for sale!)

jamie, here is one source. It is at Vintage Trailer Supply. I haven't looked for one but them or something similar might be available from Lowe's or Home Depot. The price on this seems a little high to me. I am sure you will hear from others so don't jump out and purchase this until you have given us all a chance to comment. www.vintagetrailersupply.com/15A_Weatherproof_Inlet_p/vts-523.htm

That is called a Shore Power Plug and you can use whatever type fits your needs. We installed a marinco 30 amp male plug since the PO had included one with the trailer, and bought a 'dogbone' 30 amp female to 15 amp male adapter for using a standard power cord, and also made up a 10 gauge cord with 30 amp connectors on each side for use in an RV park with 30 amp service.

Jamie, Glad to see you found us.
The above is exactly the replacement for the originals. This will feed a 15-amp service, which is what the trailer would have come with from the factory.
If you are adding modern amenities, and air conditioning, you may want to consider changing it over to a 30-amp service. That means changing the inlet, the wiring to the breaker box, the box and breakers, and likely some wiring as well, to provide heavy enough service for such amenities. If that is the case there are a lot of more-experienced folks here who can advise on how to set it up and wire it up.
Hope all is well on your end. Hope to see more of ya around!
Chris, from the old Shasta board.

Hi Jamie,
The backwards plug is a "motor base inlet". Many 15 amp inlets are available in a weatherproof form. Called a "weatherproof 15 amp inlet"
The 15 amp inlets require 14 ga wire. Do not try to wire 12 or 10 gauge wire to these inlets, often the ground screw will break. (wonder how I know that?) The TRAILER can easily be wired for a later 30 amp upgrade by running 10/2 Romex from a J box to the Breaker Box. Wire from the 15 amp inlet (14/2) to the J box, on from there with 10/2 to the breaker box. Very easy to upgrade at a later date.
Welcome!

Thanks y'all! I have taken a several month hiatus from working on my camper, and just started back in December. I didn't realize the old forum had closed, so I'm just now navigating through this one. Thanks for the help!
Hi Chris! Glad to see a familiar name!
Is there a problem with uploading photos? The app I have for pro boards has the option but it says "internal error".
Happy new year! Jamie

The old board closed down because it was over the allowed limit for photo storage, and there was a charge that would be levied for keeping the photos. All of the written information is still available there, but the photos are for the most part MIA. When this one opened, the consensus was to not allow photos to load up to that point. We have been using photo-host sites like Flickr and Photobucket to store the photos and then link to them here. There are some tutorials on the board for doing such, but not sure how the mobile works.
