Hello! I've been slowly restoring a 1963 Metzendorf for the last 3 years. I've been lurking in the background, reading your great advice, and figured it was about time I introduced myself and Myrtle (the trailer). There haven't been many Metzendorfs on here. A search of the word mostly comes up with people playing the guess-this-trailer game.
This was the day I bought her, with my "baby" brother posing next to her for size comparison. She was all original when I found her, with some unfortunate green carpet and groovy contact paper added. She also had the expected water damage around the windows, and significant roof damage around the closet.
Last summer I made new birch panels for the wrap and put them on. This summer I'm already half way through cleaning and rebuilding the windows and added trim. These are a couple of interior shots working on the new wrap. I am so thrilled with how beautiful she is is inside.
I might actually get her done this summer.

Either the Metz is short, o your “baby” brother is 7’8” tall. Myrtle is gorgeous!

She's beautiful! I just got my hands on a pretty water-damaged '63 Metzendorf and I'm trying to prepare myself for it. So happy to see someone else fixing one up because it's so hard to find information on it.
I'm about to remove jail rails and skin to see what I'm working with underneath. Your pictures are so helpful since part of it was already gutted before I got it so I don't have a template.

Thank you, Vikx! And yes it has plywood walls. Looks like I'm going to have to do a frame up. Your book has been very helpful!

One thing about plywood walls: you can build them on the floor and get them good and sturdy. Here is a link to my Corvette; plywood walls. 57corvettetrailer.shutterfly.com/ Click on Pictures and Videos to view the build albums. It shows a lot on the walls, hanging them, etc.

Great looking camper. We camp with 6 different vintage camper groups there are 2 Metzendorf campers like yours we have seen. I saw an orange/white color Metzendorf at Hiawassee GA camp ground not sure where the owner lives. We saw another Metzendorf at several rallies the owner lives in Murfreesboro TN but they sold it to a lady in Knoxville TN last summer it is painted with a blue & white ocean picture with palm trees. I have pictures but no way to post them here.

We used plywood with exterior glue. It was labeled "1/2" tho was 1/32nd less than that. Original walls were 1/2". We also beefed up the wall edges and ran the rafters all the way across the top of the walls. I used trim screws to anchor the rafter ends, a rather tedious and exact process.
All seams and around windows and doors had one by boards. They laid flat on the wall and gave purchase for future curtain rods, etc. Also, the cabinetry, bed and dinettes in this type of trailer are crucial in holding the walls square and adding sheer strength to the trailer cabin.
